Harrison Burton has touched upon his playoff plans ahead of the Atlanta race this weekend. The Wood Brothers Racing driver, who qualified in the playoffs for the first time in his Cup Series career, revealed that he wants to follow Joey Logano and Ryan Blaney's footsteps in his first postseason race in 2024.
Burton claimed a sensational victory at Daytona when he held off Kyle Busch to the finish line. The Coke Zero Sugar 400 at the Daytona International Speedway was the WBR driver's first Cup Series victory and the team's 100th. With that, he sealed his playoff spot alongside the likes of Logano and Blaney.
As the NASCAR regular season is now over with the final race at Darlington last weekend, driversm including Burton, are gearing up for the ultimate showdown, the Cup Series Championship.
Speaking about his preparation ahead of the first race at Atlanta, the #21 driver told SiriusXM NASCAR Radio:
"You've seen it with Joey (Logano) and Ryan (Blaney), once you get into the playoffs, all of a sudden that gear flips and they start going really fast. And that takes everyone. Driver, team. Everyone at that shop. We're still you know, obviously with the Wood Brothers, we're still with our own little program.
"But, we have their alliance help and so it's just little belief right, 'we're like okay, now all of a sudden we're gonna get rolling and our team that's behind us, is gonna get going and I feel like I can do that as a driver and we're just ready to go and see what we can do."
Harrison Burton finished his regular season in 34th place with 322 points. Apart from the Daytona victory, the Wood Brothers Racing driver garnered one top-5 and two top-10s and had four DNFs.
However, Burton faced immense criticism from experts, journalists and former drivers following his playoff qualification. They questioned NASCAR's playoff rule and deemed that there were better drivers than the #21 man who missed out on qualification.
