Harrison Burton shared an honest confession about Wood Brothers Racing replacing him for 2025. Burton said he could've saved his NASCAR Cup Series seat only if he performed the way he did in the latter half of the 2024 season.

The 24-year-old NASCAR racer drove the No. 21 Ford Mustang for Wood Brothers Racing in 2024 but he was axed from the team midway through the season, with Josh Berry taking over its single-car Cup Series entry.

As quoted by Sportsnaut, Harrison Burton said that he could have kept his job had his performances towards the first half of the season matched those in the second half.

“I really think if I ran the way I did in the last half of the season, I keep my job but that’s part of racing," Burton shared.
“But racing is about performing when it matters," the young driver added.

For 2025, Burton will try and earn his way back to the premier series with a new seat with AM Racing in the Xfinity Series, saying:

“I’ve got a lot of treads left on the tires [...] I’m ready to go man. I’m super confident in myself and what I can do. I know that, in the right circumstances, I can be a Cup-level driver. I have to go prove it. I have to go earn it."

The Huntersville native will drive the No. 15 Ford Mustang for AM Racing next year. The upcoming Xfinity Series stint follows a playoff appearance after he won the 2024 Coke Zero Sugar 400 at Daytona International Speedway.

Burton scored one win, two top-5s, and six top-10s during his three-year run with Wood Brothers Racing.

Harrison Burton reacted to joining AM Racing for 2025

While some fans expressed concern about Harrison Burton moving to the second-tier series, the driver was excited about being part of AM Racing. He believes it was a great opportunity to help build the young team with his Cup experience.

In a statement, the 24-year-old driver said:

“I’m excited to join AM Racing and help build it into the race-winning race team I believe it can and will be. I think this will be a great opportunity for me to take the things I’ve learned in the Cup Series, bring those to the Xfinity Series and be the best driver I can be."

Harrison Burton added:

"It’s a blessing to continue my NASCAR journey, and I intend to make the most of this opportunity."

AM Racing may be competing in the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series for a while now but it is a relatively newcomer in the Xfinity Series. Burton will take over the No. 15 car Hailee Deegan ran before moving to the Indy NXT Series.

The 2025 Xfinity Series season will kick off at the Daytona International Speedway for the United Rentals 300 on February 15.
