Joey Logano is among the most successful drivers of his generation with two NASCAR Cup Series championship titles. He also has 34 wins in the Cup Series, including a Daytona 500 victory in 2015.
Logano started his racing career at an early age, earning the Eastern Grand National championship in 1997 in the Junior Stack Car Quarter Midget Division at age seven. In 2005, the driver was signed by Joe Gibbs Racing as a development driver and was promoted full-time four years later.
The 34-year-old veteran has been a standout presence on the track since his first year in the stock car league full-time, which was capped off with a Rookie of the Year award.
As Logano continues to fight for wins, let’s take a look at his remarkable track record.
Joey Logano started his NASCAR Cup Series career with Joe Gibbs Racing
In 2009, Joe Gibbs Racing promoted Joey Logano to a full-time drive and gave him the No. 20 Toyota Camry. It didn’t take long before the driver won his first race at New Hampshire Motor Speedway, making him the youngest Cup Series winner at the age of 19.
Logano’s efforts in his first year in the premier series earned him the Rookie of the Year award.
The next race the driver won was in the 2012 season at Pocono Raceway. After giving Mark Martin a bump-and-run in the closing laps, the No. 20 driver took the lead and won by just 0.997 seconds.
Joey Logano ended his stint with the Huntersville-based outfit with two wins, 16 top-5s, and 41 top-10s.
Joey Logano’s first five years with Team Penske
Joey Logano signed for Team Penske in 2013, driving the No. 22 Ford. The Connecticut native only won one race, at Michigan International Speedway, in his first year but he did record 11 top-5 and 19 top-10 finishes.
The 2014 and 2015 seasons saw Logano taking five and six wins, respectively. He managed to reach the Championship 4 in his second year with Team Penske.
One of his most important wins was in 2015, when the driver bagged his first Daytona 500 victory. This made him one of the youngest winners of The Great American Race at the age of 24.
The 2015 Daytona 500 victory also gave the team its second win following Ryan Newman’s victory in 2008. As a side note, the Mooresville-based team now has three Daytona 500 wins after Austin Cindric took the checkered flag in 2022.
In 2016, Joey Logano won three races, including the penultimate race at Phoenix which earned him a ticket to his second Championship 4. However, Jimmie Johnson got the upper hand at Homestead-Miami Speedway and secured his 7th NASCAR Cup Series championship.
Logano had a tough season the year after. His only win came at Richmond Raceway, which coincided with his 300th Cup Series start.
From the championship-winning year in 2018 to the present
Joey Logano joined the Cup Series champions' club when he beat Martin Truex Jr., Kevin Harvick, and Kyle Busch in the 2018 Championship 4 in a 1-2-3-4 finish. After losing P1 to Truex Jr. on the final lap, Logano bumped his rival’s car and regained the lead to win the championship.
After a Round of 8 exit in 2019, the Ford driver got back to the Championship 4 in 2020, for the fourth time in his career. That year, Chase Elliott bested the championship contenders in a 1-2-3-4 finish for his first championship title.
The 2021 season saw Logano only winning one race at the Bristol Dirt Race. He was eliminated in the Round of 8 and concluded the season with 10 top-5s and 19 top-10s.
Logano signed a multi-year extension with Team Penske in 2022. Later in the season, the driver was back on top after winning his second NASCAR Cup Series championship in 2022, beating Christopher Bell, Ross Chastain, and Chase Elliott in Phoenix.
In 2023, Logano won just a single race, at Atlanta Motor Speedway, but Team Penske had a strong year. His teammate Ryan Blaney won the championship title for the first time in his Cup career.
Coming to the current season, the No. 22 driver has two wins, five top-5s, and nine top-10s. One of his wins came at the first playoff race in the Round of 16 in Atlanta, locking him a spot for the Round of 8.
So far, Joey Logano has 34 wins, 165 top-5s, and a total of 283 top-10s.
