Kyle Busch recently admired Kyle Larson's talent, despite their collision at the end of Stage 2 in the Enjoy Illinois 300. Following the skirmish at Gateway, Larson and Busch exchanged words, with Busch questioning the significance of a single stage point to Larson, and the latter asserting that every point matters. As such, fans might not have expected a reconciliation so soon.
However, a recent video posted by NASCAR on NBC showed Busch in a different light, where he was full of praise for the Hendrick Motorsports driver, Kyle Larson.
"He has this knack of being able to make the car go. And he is who I want to model after which is just fast in anything," Kyle Busch said via NASCAR on NBC. [0:41-0:51]
Not to mention, after Kyle Larson took the blame for the incident at Gateway, Kyle Busch expressed his intent to move forward, saying:
"Last week’s last week. It is what it is, you know. Just moving on." [0:50-1:01]
Furthermore, considering how the 39-year-old raced Larson very cleanly in the Toyota Mart 350 at Sonoma Raceway, even letting him pass, the video of Kyle Busch appreciating Larson can be seen as a peacemaker.
However, according to the statistics, these passes and clean races are not proving beneficial for the #8.
Kyle Busch needs to ramp up and win a race
Kyle Busch's current 2024 season has been a disappointing one so far. While it can be partially attributed to drivers like him still adapting to the next-gen car, he has struggled to yield any good results.
The last four weeks have been particularly tough for Busch. It started with a literal blow when Ricky Stenhouse punched him in the face. That was followed by a series of pit-road blunders, leading to a P15 finish in a rain-shortened Coca-Cola 600.
His luck didn't improve at Gateway, where Kyle Larson took him out, resulting in a P35 finish. Most recently, Ross Chastain wiped him out on the final lap at Sonoma, relegating him to a P12 finish.
Now that he has abandoned his bad boy attitude and races clean, this season has seen limited success apart from a close runner-up finish at the Ambetter Health 400 in Atlanta and a P4 finish at the Wurth 400 in Dover, leaving him with just one top-5 finish.
Currently, he stands at P15 in the Driver Cup standings, having accumulated 380 points, trailing behind Bubba Wallace.
