NASCAR Xfinity Series team owner Kelley Earnhardt recently talked about how her husband L.W. Miller was protective of her when she started working in the male-dominated industry of motorsports.

On the "Motorvate" podcast, Angie Skinner and Kelley discussed how people would undermine women and make inappropriate comments. Kelley, who is married to former NASCAR driver Miller, shared her experience.

"That was something that L.W. and I dealt with in our relationship in the beginning. He was very protective over me. I always was like, 'I can do this.' And he's like, 'You just don't understand how guys talk in this business.' And I’m like, 'They might say that about me behind my back, but they dang sure ain’t going to do that to my face,'" Kelley Earnhardt said (29:20).

She further stated that both the world and the sport have gotten more mature since then.

"And, you know, I think it’s just like everything else. It’s better. The world has grown, and therefore our industry has grown. You know, it’s the world has matured in a lot of those situations," she added (29:40).

Kelley Earnhardt also talked about the challenges she has faced while working in the NASCAR industry and revealed that the chance to impact others positively motivates her.

During the same episode, Kelley mentioned hearing from past JR Motorsports employees who missed working there.

"Know the stress of Cup racing, but you know, there's a lot of people that come through that are growing and that want to learn and that want to get to that, that level. So, um, it's always great to hear you know, I miss the way we were treated there," Kelley Earnhardt said (27:50).

Earnhardt also revealed that she enjoys managing JRM and helping others.

"You know, yeah, just to be able to make that impact on people and do that is just really, you know, what drives me. And so, I love that, being able to work with a lot of different people and being able to have that opportunity to do that, not just my brother," she added (28:03).
