Kevin Harvick shared his thoughts about Kyle Busch’s approach following the Hollywood Casino 400 that took place at the Kansas Speedway. Harvick opined that the 39-year-old was impatient, leading to mistakes such as his recent incident with Chase Briscoe where he spun out and lost the lead.
Following his retirement last year, Kevin Harvick joined the FOX broadcast booth in 2024. The driver-turned-broadcaster ended his two-decade NASCAR Cup Series career with a championship title in 2014. He also secured 60 Cup victories, the 10th on the all-time wins list behind Kyle Busch’s 63 wins.
In the latest Happy Hour episode, Kevin Harvick argued Kyle Busch is in “such a big hurry” in situations where he’s in a position to win the race.
“I think he’s in such a big hurry to try to make something happen. You can’t make it happen,” Harvick said. [18:59]
“I think he gets impatient in these situations because of the fact that he wants to make it happen so freaking bad.” he added. [19:16]
Harvick concluded his take on Kyle Busch's approach by saying:
“We’ve seen it several times out of Kyle Busch in this particular situation and I think he’s just… he’s so determined to press the issue that he’s getting himself in trouble.” [19:37]
The Las Vegas native ended the Kansas race with a P19 finish after losing the lead with 32 laps to go. His No. 8 Chevrolet Camaro got dirty air from Chase Briscoe’s No. 14 Ford, affecting the downforce needed to keep the car planted on the track. He got loose and spun down to the apron. Ross Chastain took the lead from Busch and eventually won the race.
With Kyle Busch falling short of a win at Kansas, the driver continues to be winless in 2024. If Busch fails to secure a victory in one of the six remaining races, his streak of winning at least one race in a season at 19 will end.
Fans reacted to Kyle Busch’s performance at Kansas Speedway
Aside from NASCAR insiders, fans had some words against Kyle Busch on X (formerly Twitter) following the race weekend at Kansas Speedway. Some users didn’t hold back their sentiments, with one saying the 63-time Cup winner should go home and retire.
“Go home you whiner! You need to retire,” one fan said.
“Kyle Busch. All hype. Never converting good runs into wins,” another fan wrote.
One fan believes Busch would’ve done the same if he was Chase Briscoe, who, at the time, was about to get lapped by the charging No. 8 car.
“@KyleBusch and his few fans will cry about @ChaseBriscoe_14 but he was doing what he should. Krylebaby should’ve drove differently. If the roles were reversed, Krylebaby would’ve done the same," the fan commented.
Busch has secured five top-5 and 10 top-10 finishes so far this year, including one pole position at Dover Motor Speedway. His best finish was a back-to-back P2 at the last two races of the regular season at Daytona and Darlington, respectively.
The Chevy driver will resume action at the Talladega Superspeedway this Sunday, when the YellaWood 500 will take place.
