NASCAR insider Davey Segal recently backed Martin Truex Jr. to win the USA Today 301 in New Hampshire. He pointed out that among the drivers who haven't won yet but are in the playoff picture, Truex Jr. was in one of the best positions, if not the best to qualify for the playoffs.

Martin Truex Jr., who will retire from racing at the end of the 2024 season, is yet to win a race this year, with his best performance being a runner-up finish in Bristol. Last year, by this time, Truex Jr. had already bagged two wins at Dover and Sonoma.

Journalist Davey Segal recently appeared spoke Carla Metts Gebhart on Charlotte Sports Live to discuss NASCAR as the USA Today 301 race approaches. He shared his thoughts about Martin Truex Jr. , stating:

"In terms of the guys that are winless that are currently in the playoff picture, MTJ is among the best if not the best position-wise right now. So, not really worried about missing the playoffs because I don't think we're going to get to 16 winners in the next nine races," Segal said.
And if we do, that will be another conversation for another day. But certainly Carl, I mean, no doubt. he's capable of doing it. He did it last year," he added.

Meanwhile, Martin Truex Jr. is also betting on himself to for his next victory in New Hampshire.

Previously, Toyota and Ford have dominated the track, securing 17 of the last 18 races since 2012. Chevrolet's only win during this period was clinched by Kevin Harvick in 2016, back when he was with Stewart-Haas Racing.

Meanwhile, Martin Truex Jr. has consistently performed well at New Hampshire, with one win, nine top-5s, and 15 top-10s from 30 starts. Notably, he won last year’s Crayon 301, leading 254 of the 301 laps while sweeping all the stages.

With these achievements in mind, Martin Truex Jr. is optimistic about his prospects in the upcoming race. He said:

“I think we can. I feel like we’ve been good on short tracks in general this year, with our new Camry. We’ve been really good at Loudon the last two years with the Next Gen car," the 43-year-old said
"It’s just going to be a matter of how do we adapt the changes we have now to what we did last year, and how does the track change. I’m really confident. We’ve got a really good team and things are going well. We just need to put it all together,” he added as quoted by Seacoastonline.

Martin Truex Jr. is currently fifth in the Cup Series Standings, with four Top-5 finishes to his name. He has bagged 530 points so far.
