Recently, Tyler Reddick discussed his relationship with Scott Bloomquist during the former's racing days in the Late Model Dirt Series. Bloomquist was a Dirt Track legend who died last month in a tragic plane crash.
In an episode of Kevin Harvick's Happy Hour podcast, the 2024 regular season champion Reddick talked about crossing paths with Bloomquist on the dirt tracks. He claimed that on a fine day, the Dirt Late Model Hall of Famer Bloomquist asked the 23XI Racing driver and his father to "stick around". Reddick said:
"So just got to know him a little bit there. He wanted to help us out and that just kind of started the process of me my dad and our family just eventually moving over and getting some Bloomquist cars. It didn't even stop there, it turned into Scott asking us to come over and stay at his shop, his compound if you will and just kind of turned into you know wherever Scott went we went we'd run the same series."
Furthermore, the #45 Toyota driver added:
"He had a lot of really smart, really great people and Scott pretty much just took my family under his wing and taught me so much about these Late Model... Scott really took me under his wing in a way no one had really seen him do that for others. So it just meant a lot hanging out with the legend of the sport."
Moreover, the two-time Xfinity Series champion credited Bloomquist for playing a huge part in his life for getting him where he is now.
"This win should go for him": Tyler Reddick paid tribute to Scott Bloomquist following his victory at Michigan
Tyler Reddick, the full-time Cup Series driver is currently one of the top contenders for the 2024 Cup Series title. Soon after Scott Bloomquist's death, the 28-year-old won his second win of the season and dedicated his triumph to the Dirt Track legend.
In a post-race interview, Reddick honored Bloomquist and said:
"I can't help but sit here in victory lane and think of Scott Bloomquist man. Huge mentor to me and incredible role model and legend of dirt racing and motorsports. So, last couple of days have been tough and this really helps him. So this win should go for him and his family, his friends and all that means a lot to him."
As things stand, Reddick, on his first Round of 16 race, finished sixth and will next head to Watkins Glen International for the Go Bowling at Glen race on 15 September.
