Ahead of the race at Nashville, Denny Hamlin spoke about his relationship with his future teammate, Chase Briscoe. Hamlin claimed that he and Briscoe don't share "a close relationship" because they haven't spoken to each other that much.
But in the recent episode of Actions Detrimental, Denny Hamlin elaborated how Chase Briscoe's arrival at Joe Gibbs Racing would be beneficial to them.
As his co-host Jared Allen wondered whether Briscoe would make JGR better, the guest of the week Tyler Reddick pointed to Hamlin's picture on the wall with Briscoe. The wall on the set of Actions Detrimental has pictures of several incidents that Denny Hamlin has had with other drivers over the years.
Hamlin looked at that picture from Indianapolis in 2021 and remarked that it was another race he should've won as he got taken out by a car (Briscoe) that was black-flagged.
But he later explained how Briscoe's arrival would help him and JGR in 2025.
"I think that Chase has a very good skill set, certainly at some tracks he excels really well and I'll be excited to compare myself when he's in the same car. I do think he'll bring something to the table, always unique perspectives from drivers that have been at another organization, another manufacturer, all that will be intriguing as he comes into our meetings next year," Hamlin said. Going forward while Hamlin and Briscoe are all set to be teammates, it's worth mentioning that there was a time not long ago when the two were feuding with each other.
Denny Hamlin and Chase Briscoe's on-track feud that extended to fiery social media comments
In August 2021 at Indianapolis, Briscoe ended up spinning Denny Hamlin in overtime, which led to a pit road spat between the two.
Later that season, at Texas, the two had another incident on track in which Briscoe hit the wall while racing alongside Hamlin.
Following this, Hamlin chimed on his radio, calling Briscoe "a f**k**g idiot", a quote that made it to NASCAR on NBC's Instagram account. This led to Briscoe replying under that picture by taking a sarcastic dig at Denny Hamlin and referencing his 2017 comments.
"If only I had 10,000 races worth of experience under my belt," Briscoe wrote as per NBC Sports.
After Briscoe's comment, the feud progressed further when Hamlin decided to reply to the SHR rookie, claiming that he doubts Briscoe will ever get to that much experience.
"There’s cars racing for a championship. In case you forgot about taking out the leader and costing him 1 championship already this season. Perhaps when you learn give and take you will start to finish better," Hamlin added.
Briscoe replied that he gets "paid to race" and just because the #11 driver was racing in the playoffs, it didn't mean he would get an easy pass. The #14 driver mentioned that he had a promising car and he was simply trying to take advantage of it as he emphasized that while drivers like Hamlin race for championships, drivers like him are racing to keep their jobs.
Adding to this, Denny Hamlin chose to reply with a word of advice for Briscoe. The #11 driver said that if his car was better, he'd have gotten his spot back, eventually.
"Risk management is how you optimize your finish each week. Maybe putting yourself in others shoes for 1 min would help. You had 25 races to get a chance to race for the post season," Hamlin wrote.
The senior JGR driver told his future teammate back in 2021 that in his eyes, respect seemed like an underrated trait in the modern world.
