Alex Bowman had some fun with Daniel Suarez during the recent NASCAR Playoff media day over bidding on a car.
In an interview with veteran Motor Racing Network announcer Dave Moody on SiriusXM NASCAR Radio, Bowman said he has a "car problem" and that he owns 17 cars, to which Moody responded that it sounds like an issue. Bowman can later be heard in the clip saying that his wife, Chloe, has banned him from buying any more cars.
Bowman was hanging out with Suarez during a break in between interviews. Bowman could be seen on his phone with Suarez looking over his shoulder at the phone. On the phone, Suarez showed Bowman a car in Scottsdale, to which Bowman said they should "bid it up."
In a video posted to his personal X account, Bowman said he was going to place a bid on the car and make Suarez overspend for the automobile.
"Suarez is trying to buy, so I'm going to bid his [explective] up and make him pay too much money," Bowman said. "Then, if I end up with it, I'm going to be really sad, but I'd still make him buy it from me somehow. I'd just park it at his house with a bill on top."
Towards the end of the clip, Bowman said Suarez was placing a bid and was going to "run him up" in order to buy it. Yet, at the end of the clip, Bowman finds out on his phone that Suarez wasn't even the winning bid.
"He didn't get the car," Bowman said. "Poor guy."
Bowman posted the video to X and said:
"Sorry @Daniel_SuarezG, maybe the next one."
Bowman and Suarez will both compete in this year's playoffs
Suarez wheeled his No. 99 Trackhouse Racing Chevrolet into this year's playoffs following his three-wide photo finish win at Atlanta Motor Speedway over Ryan Blaney and Kyle Busch in just the second race of the 2024 campaign. The win was Suarez's second career Cup win and first since his win at Sonoma Raceway in June 2022. Suarez has tallied two top-fives and one stage win and will begin the playoffs from the 11th position.
Bowman raced his way into the playoffs following a win at the Chicago Street Course, which was his eighth career Cup win, and snapped an 80-race winless streak dating back to March 2022 at Las Vegas. Bowman suffered a back injury in April 2023 in an accident during a sprint car race at West Burlington, Iowa. Bowman missed four races due to the injury, failed to win a race, and made the playoffs. This year, Bowman has posted one win and six top-fives and will start the playoffs from the 12th position.
