The Chili Bowl Nationals is one of the most prominent midget dirt races held in the United States. The event will take place next week, inside the Tulsa Expo Center in Tulsa, Oklahoma, with the winner walking away with up to $20,000.
While an official winner's purse hasn't been released, it's safe to say the winner will walk away with a handsome prize. According to alwaysraceday.com, the Chili Bowl Nationals doubled its winner's purse in last year's race, from $10,000 to $20,000. That prize went to Logan Seavey, winner of the last two Chili Bowl Nationals event.
The annual Oklahoma racing event will feature six days of action, stretching from Monday to Saturday of next week. This year's event will see over 350 entries with everyone trying to earn a spot in Saturday night's main event, a 55-lap event for the Golden Driller trophy.
Monday through Friday will see heat races and qualifying races that will determine who makes up the 24-car field for the main event. In the heat races, drivers will compete to earn "passing points" and try to work their way into Saturday's A-Main.
This year's Chili Bowl Nationals will be the 39th running of the event since its debut in 1987. The late Rich Vogler won the inaugural event, while drivers like Sammy Swindell, his son Kevin Swindell, Christopher Bell, Dan Boorse, Tony Stewart, Cory Kruseman, Rico Abreu, Kyle Larson, and Seavey are all multi-time Chili Bowl Nationals winner.
Six NASCAR Cup Series drivers will compete in this year's event, including Kyle Busch, Ty Gibbs, Ricky Stenhouse Jr., Kyle Larson, Chase Briscoe, and Christopher Bell. For Busch, it will mark his first appearance in the event and he will be joined by his nine-year-old son, Brexton, who also has an entry in the event.
Kyle Busch posted teaser video for upcoming Chili Bowl Nationals debut
Two-time NASCAR Cup Series champion Kyle Busch is set to try his hand in the Chili Bowl Nationals for the first time in his racing career. The 63-time Cup Series winner got his Instagram followers fired up for next week's event by posting a teaser video.
In the post, the Las Vegas native noted it's almost time for him to get behind the wheel and see what he can do. Busch wrote:
"It’s almost Driller Time in Tulsa! Catch me in action January 17th & 18th Live on @FloRacing! Watch live here: https://flosports.link/chilibowl2025"
On the Cup Series side, Busch will soon run the #8 Richard Childress Racing Chevrolet for the third season in 2025. In 2024, the younger brother of Kurt Busch failed to win a single race for the first time in his 20-year Cup Series career. Busch also missed out on the playoffs for the first time since 2012.
