Three-time NASCAR Cup Series champion Tony Stewart and Leah Pruett, a two-time NHRA world champion, have become one of the motorsports’ power couples. Their relationship has been one of the most talked about across both racing worlds, and on that note, let’s take a look at how Stewart meets his wife Pruett and eventually ties the knot.
Tony Stewart and his now wife Leah Pruett first met in 2019 through fellow racer Don Prudhomme, who told Stewart he needed to meet Pruett. Stewart and Pruett were introduced after they both ended their previous relationships.
Former NASCAR driver and team owner Stewart was engaged to model Pennelope Jimenez at the time of their first meeting, whereas Pruett was married to NHRA crew chief Gary Pritchett since 2013. However, nothing had started between Stewart and Pruett until they’d ended their previous relationship.
On the “Dale Jr. Download” podcast in 2023, Stewart spoke about how they ended their past relationship before dating each other.
“I canceled my engagement, Leah had gotten separated and was in the process of getting divorced,” Stewart said.
On the podcast, NASCAR Hall of Famer revealed that he drove six hours from Alabama to Florida to meet Pruett for lunch in Gainesville, Florida. Later, they went to Daytona, Florida, to watch bike races. They started dating at the start of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Tony Stewart and Leah Pruett announced their engagement in March 2021 and tied the knot in November 2021. The 1997 IndyCar Series champion announced the engagement on X, writing:
“So excited to spend the rest of my life with a truly amazing woman. She’s motivated, hard working, funny as hell, and as dedicated to her sport as anyone I’ve ever known. Love you babe.”
Tony Stewart and his wife welcomed their first child before NHRA finals
The couple welcomed their first child, a son named Dominic James Stewart, in November 2024.
Ahead of the 2024 NHRA finals, Stewart spoke about being a dad and said:
“The short three hours that I go to spend with [Dominic] overnight, you couldn’t put a price tag on it. I would do it all over again for that little boy and for my wife and for our family. I didn’t win a championship. I didn’t win a race today, but I feel like I put today in the category of wins and championships.”
Tony Stewart competed in the 2025 NHRA season as a rookie in the Top Fuel Division after replacing his wife and will return in the 2025 season in the Top Fuel Division as Pruett is enjoying the time of being a new mother.
