23XI Racing's Bubba Wallace was recently confronted with the words of Chris Buescher, the RFK Racing driver who had a run-in with Tyler Reddick at Darlington. After Reddick ran into Buescher and ended his chances of winning his first race of the season, Buescher got pretty mad at the 23XI driver.
Right after getting out of his car, Buescher confronted Reddick and later expressed his frustration about Reddick having already won a race this season while he was yet to.
It was this part of Buescher's complaints with Reddick which a Frontstretch journalist put in front of Wallace, asking if there's any expectations from a driver who has already won, to be mindful of another driver who is yet to win a race that season.
"Wins are so tough to come by. So I agree with Chris 100% on that. But when you're in a spot to win, we're going for it, doesn't matter if you have 10, you want 11. So never going to back down just because you have wins and somebody else doesn't. But the way you race each other could change," Wallace said. [1:30]
He elaborated that one could "keep it on the clean side" but sometimes contact is made, so the driver must figure out a way to be a better competitor so it doesn't become "a repeat deal."
Wallace further emphasized that a driver wants to win one race, and then 10 races, and then all of them as he circled back to the idea of winning a race being "so hard to do."
"But if you're in spot, then you do everything you can for your team, for your sponsors, for yourself," he added.
Has Bubba Wallace matured as a racecar driver? 23XI Racing boss thinks so
During an interview with Fronstretch in March this year, 23XI Racing's Steve Lauletta was asked to share his thoughts on the maturation process of Bubba Wallace over the last few years. While Wallace didn't win a race in 2023, he qualified for the playoffs, all of which suggested to Steve Lauletta that his #23 driver was now "definitely more comfortable" with the car and the team around him.
"He is honing his race craft and being able to understand when and how to make the moves he needs to make to be up front," Lauletta said.
He mentioned how Wallace has been great on restarts and in qualifying and had it not been for a blown tire at Kansas, it could've been him instead of Reddick who won the race.
Lauletta further added that with Wallace maturing and growing as a racecar driver, 23XI Racing also have to "keep putting him in position" considering he has shown "the ability and the mindset" to fight for wins.
