Chase Briscoe recently spoke about his mentality heading into the ROVAL. Having booked his ticket to the playoffs with his win at Darlington, Briscoe made it through the first round of the playoffs into the Round of 12.
But ahead of the final race of this round, at the ROVAL on Sunday, Briscoe is staring at a must-win scenario. This is because the SHR driver is in 12th spot on the standings with a 32 points deficit.
Interestingly, Briscoe had mentioned before the playoffs began that he was looking to replicate Tony Stewart's championship run from 2011. Ahead of ROVAL, his points situation and the must-win scenario were brought up by a journalist during a media interaction with the #14 driver. Briscoe said,
“I don’t feel worried at all. I honestly feel a lot like I did going into the Darlington week, where I know that we can win here. We’ve done it before in the Xfinity level, but this is a track I feel really good about. Our road course stuff has been really good. If you look at Watkins Glen and things like that. So I’m not really nervous" [3:15].
He added that there's not a lot that the #14 team can't achieve if they do everything right.
For Chase Briscoe, getting out of the ROVAL with a spot in the next round of the playoffs would take 'a good weekend'.
"With where we’re at in the points I feel like it makes it easier to win the race just because you don’t have to put yourself where you get the points then you restart 20th every single time. You can just flip the track position and you’re gonna start up front every time, so I feel really good about it truthfully," he added.
" I haven’t seen anything" - Chase Briscoe says SHR aren't missing out on anything from Ford ahead of imminent closure
During the press conference on Saturday ahead of ROVAL, Chase Briscoe was asked about the flow of information from Ford to SHR with the team's imminent closure at the end of the year. Briscoe was asked if he has seen any "chinks in the armor" from that perspective.
Briscoe replied,
"From my standpoint, at least the driver’s side, I haven’t seen anything. But I’m also not the one doing all the setups and stuff like that. So I try to not get in the weeds of that stuff" [7:20].
He revealed that he's still going to the simulator and doing all the things he would normally do. And because of that they still have everything they need. Briscoe claimed that despite the #14 team not running well and up front in the playoffs, he hasn't felt a missing element "by any means."
He added that if the #14 team doesn't make it to the Round of 8 past ROVAL, he isn't sure if getting all the resources from Ford would change because Chase Briscoe is the only SHR driver in the playoffs right now.
