Back in 2021, Justin Allgaier touched upon his racing driver job and revealed how his job description surprises a lot of people. Speaking to The Athletic, the JR Motorsports driver stated that he does not lie about his job but often downplays it.
NASCAR driver Allgaier sat with Jeff Gluck to answer the customary tradition of answering 12 questions. In one of the questions, the JR Motorsports man was asked if he ever lied about his job to people, to which, he replied by stating that he does not lie and enjoys the attention he receives after disclosing how he earns bread and butter.
"I don’t ever lie, but I tend to downplay what I do. A lot of times I say I work in racing. And then people ask, “Where do you work?” “I work for JR Motorsports.” And sometimes it gets to the point of like, “Well, what do you do?” “I drive the car.” “Oh, no way!” It always surprises a lot of people," Allgaier said.
"But on the other hand, I love what I do. And I’m blessed to get to do what I love to do. I don’t ever want to make it sound more glorious than what it is. Because it takes everybody that’s on the race team to do what we do. But on the other hand, it’s always fun to see people’s reaction," he added. (As per The New York Times)
Justin Allgaier is a 38-year-old NASCAR driver from Springfield, Illinois. He currently competes for Dale Earnhardt Jr.'s co-owned team, JR Motorsports, and claimed the recently concluded 2024 Xfinity Series championship.
The #7 driver held off Cole Custer of the now-defunct Stewart-Haas Racing to win his maiden Xfinity Series title. Even though Allgaier failed to win the Championship 4 race at Phoenix Raceway, he had enough point cushion to clinch the trophy.
Justin Allgaier on whether he fulfilled his dream
During the interview with The Athletic, Justin Allgaier also opened up about his dreams and stated if he was able to fulfill his aspirations. Here's what he said about it in detail:
"I’ve blown away whatever dreams and aspirations I had as a young child. For me, it was turning a lap. If I could ever just make a Cup race, make an Xfinity Series race, or make a NASCAR race in general, that would be a huge dream and aspiration when I was a kid. So to be where I’m at now has definitely blown it away."
The #7 Chevrolet Camaro driver for JR Motorsports racked up decent Xfinity Series statistics to his name. He competed in 471 races in over 15 years, claiming 25 race wins, 10 pole positions, and 282 Top 10s.
Allgaier also found his Cup Series break midway and took part in 82 races in over eight years. The 38-year-old NASCAR star will drive for JR Motorsports in the Xfinity Series again in 2025 after signing a contract extension earlier this year.
