Jimmie Johnson-owned Legacy Motor Club recently tweaked its company logo and posted an update about the same on X. However, the fans didn’t quite get the point.
Legacy Motor Club is a two-car team that operates full-time in the NASCAR Cup Series. The team started as Evernham Motorsports in 2000 and then came to be known as Petty GMS Racing in 2022.
In 2023, Johnson took over the organization, and the team was again rebranded to Legacy Motor Club. Based in Statesville, North Carolina, Legacy Motor Club is known to have fielded legendary drivers like Bill Elliott, Kasey Kahne, Marcos Ambrose, Jeremy Mayfield, and Elliott Sadler in the past.
Here is the post by Legacy Motor Club unveiling the new logo:
Fans usually get excited when a NASCAR team changes its logo. However, the reactions were quite unexpected when Legacy Motor Club did it. One of the fans even said that they weren’t sure what the announcement was about.
“Wooooo I dunno what you just announced but it looked cool,” the fan said.
Recalling Richard Petty’s performance with the No. 43 machine (currently driven by Erik Jones), another fan wrote,
“How about a competitive and winning team? Let's get 43 back on top... lifetime Petty fan"
Here are a few other reactions to Legacy Motor Club’s post,
“How about evolving the cars so you don’t finish in the 20’s every week?” a fan commented.
"that was it?…the whole announcement was them adding a few lines to their logo and barely changing the number designs???” wondered another.
“slightly changing your logo wont make your cars faster,” someone wrote.
It is the third year for Legacy Motor Club in the Cup Series. The team recently added Travis Mack as the crew chief of the No. 42 car driven by John Hunter Nemechek. It is safe to say that their logo is not the only thing the team is revamping ahead of the upcoming season.
Jimmie Johnson’s NASCAR team makes major addition to team management
Last month, Legacy Motor Club added Chad Johnston to its Cup Series Roster as the manager of race engineering. As per Newsweek, Johnston will work closely with technical director Brian Campe and Jacob Canter from the competition department.
“Chad is a great hire for us at Legacy Motor Club,” said Campe. “His decades of experience and extensive knowledge will make him a huge benefit to the club. We have a lot of work to do this off-season and Chad’s expertise will help us accomplish our goals.”
Johnston previously served as the crew chief for Kyle Larson at Chip Ganassi Racing, Tony Stewart and Ryan Preece at Stewart-Haas Racing, and Martin Truex Jr. at Michael Waltrip Racing. He was also the race engineer for Truex Jr. during the 2011 season.
“I am excited to join LEGACY MOTOR CLUB and start a new journey in my career,” Johnston said during a press release. “I look forward to the challenges ahead and hope with my experience and knowledge I can help build LEGACY M.C. into a top-tier winning organization.” (via Newsweek)
In 13 seasons as a crew chief, Johnston has called over 400 races and amassed seven victories in the NASCAR Cup Series and one in the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series. Besides that, he recorded 11 poles, 70 top-5s, and 140 top 10s.
