Hailie Deegan recently shared a hilarious coaching fail as she tried to teach her younger brother, Hudson, how to race a UTV in preparation for an upcoming Nitro Rallycross event.
In a recent video uploaded on her YouTube channel, Deegan revealed that she was invited by Travis Pastrana to participate in a UTV race. Her younger brother Hudson was also invited to compete and she was coaching him in preparation for the event.
The 23-year-old Temecula, California native gave a brief introduction by saying:
"Hudson is right here, because I have been tasked [her brother interjects] I have to teach Hudson today how to be race-ready for a UTV race, because I comitted a while ago to doing a Nitro rally cross UTV race."
"Also my mom calls me like, 'Hey Travis [Pastrana] asked Hudson to do this, uhm it's in a UTV' and I was like are you talking about this and she's like yeah. I was like Mom I'm racing in that. She was like 'He has to race against you!' So I'm driver coach today."
Hailie Deegan taught Hudson the basics of maneuvering the UTV and how to avoid flipping it. He ended up flipping the UTV on his first attempt and got stuck hanging upside down in the vehicle. He was unscathed in the minor accident and laughed it off with his sister and friends. Deegan jokingly suggested that she lost all the resale value due to the incident.
"I just lost all of my resale value in this!" she said. [at 5:17]
Hudson got off to a smooth start on his second attempt but ended up breaking the rear axle, which Hailie Deegan had predicted before handing him the steering wheel.
"I have a feeling we're going to be changing some axles after this." she said, which later turned to reality.
The youngest member of the Deegan family is accustomed to two-wheelers and motocross; however, his UTV skills seemingly need a little more refinement.
Hailie Deegan reflects on first F3 test following NASCAR exit
After parting ways with AM Racing midway through her rookie NASCAR Xfinity season, Hailie Deegan got the opportunity to test a Formula 3 car in Indianapolis. She recorded her first outing at Putnam Park with Toney Driver Development and shared her experience.
Having mastered off-road vehicles and stock cars, Deegan had a blast driving the open-wheel cars and learned a lot during her two-day test. She summed up her experience by saying:
"I had an absolute blast. Those cars are so crazy to drive, so wild, so fun, and I feel like I made so much progression from my first couple of laps in it, to where I ended[...] I feel like I learned a lot this week or these last two days and I feel like I just made a lot of headway, learned a lot as a driver, learned a lot of racing road courses or just being on a road course. Super super successful, very happy with it." [at 15:16]
Hailie Deegan's future in NASCAR remains uncertain, with the Haas Factory Team not including her in its Xfinity driver lineup despite having shown interest in the Ford Performance driver.
