Chase Briscoe recently reacted to Christopher Bell leaking a major announcement about his future. During a press conference on Friday, Bell, while answering a question about leaders at Joe Gibbs Racing, accidentally let slip the phrase, "Whenever Chase comes into the car...".
The 29-year-old stopped midway into his answer, had a look towards his PR person, and smiled. His response almost confirmed the rumors of Chase Briscoe being Martin Truex Jr.'s successor at Joe Gibbs Racing.
But Bell revealing this major story in this way wasn't something that surprised Briscoe, who was running in his sprint car on Friday.
When Frontstretch confronted Chase Briscoe about Christopher Bell's comments, the current Stewart-Haas Racing driver said:
"Yeah, to be honest with you, I still haven't seen it because I have no signal here. But he texted me right before we went for a hot lap. He said, 'Chase, I'm sorry. I messed up really bad.' But I haven't got to see any of it. I can't get nothing to load. I can't get a text or send nothing, so I'm sure when I get back after tonight I'll get blown up pretty bad, but typical Christopher." Chase Briscoe is currently 17th in the NASCAR Cup Series standings, amassing 370 points so far.
The question posed to Christopher Bell that led to his 'oops moment' regarding Chase Briscoe
During a press-conference at the New Hampshire Motor Speedway, Bell was asked whether he felt he would be taking on a bigger leadership role at JGR after Truex Jr.'s departure.
And it was during the response to that question that Bell accidentally revealed the name 'Chase.'
Bell appreciated the question but claimed that from a driver's standpoint, there wasn't any leadership in question. He added that when the team get into their competition meetings, the more experienced drivers spoke up and took up the role of "steering the ship".
As for himself, Bell claimed he had "definitely grown in confidence" telling the team what they need in the car with his experience. But depending on the week, a different driver can lead that discussion.
It was in the next part of Bell's response that he accidentally revealed half of Chase Brisoce's name as he fumbled and ran out of words for a few seconds.
"Every time we go into our Monday meetings, it could be whoever has a good race that week. Plenty of times it has been Ty (Gibbs), plenty of times it has been Martin (Truex) or me or Denny (Hamlin). I don’t think there really is a leadership role in that aspect, and whenever Chase comes into the car ... whenever some... I don't even know what to say," Bell said.
Christopher Bell has had a good 2024 season so far, as he currently sits in eighth position with 498 points, 93 behind table-topper Chase Elliott.
