Carson Hocevar let his fans know he's already itching to get back to racing during the two-week break. While drivers like Kyle Busch, who've had a rough season, welcomed the Olympic break to recharge and spend time with family, Hocevar from Spire Motorsports is eager to hit the track again.
In his rookie season in the NASCAR Cup Series, Carson Hocevar previously showed promise in the Craftsman Truck Series racing for Niece Motorsports. Last year, Spire Motorsports and Legacy Motor Club offered him part-time drives in the Cup Series, with his best finish being P11 at Bristol Motor Speedway. Impressed by his performance, Spire Motorsports has handed him a full-time ride in their #77 Chevrolet this year, fast-tracking him straight to the Cup Series without a stint in the NASCAR Xfinity Series.
Carson Hocevar has had a decent run this season, finishing in the top 10 twice and landing in the top 20 eleven times. His best moment came at the World Wide Technology Raceway [Gateway], where he surged from a P20 start to finish P8, marking his best result of the year.
And now, barely a week after the Brickyard 400 race at Indianapolis Motor Speedway, Carson Hocevar expressed his eagerness to get back on track. He posted on X, saying:
"i am bored today. i wanna race."
Carson Hocevar receives the support of former NASCAR driver
Carson Hocevar recently found himself at the center of controversy during the Brickyard 400. A maneuver involving Hocevar and Ryan Blaney escalated, causing Blaney's #12 car to sideswipe Jimmie Johnson's #84, which subsequently collided with Joey Logano. This chain reaction forced Logano and Johnson out of the race with significant car damage, sparking frustration among fellow drivers about Hocevar's racing style.
However, it isn't new for Carson Hocevar, whose reputation for on-track incidents dates back to his Truck Series days, including a notable incident where he was penalized for aggressive driving against Taylor Gray at Martinsville and other contentious moments with Championship contenders at Phoenix Raceway.
Yet, former NASCAR driver Kevin Harvick came to Hocevar's defense on his show, Happy Harvick's Hour. Harvick stated:
"I don’t think Hocevar is doing anything wrong. He’s clearly in the middle of the racetrack and the 12 comes down on him, but with as many guys that are frustrated with Hocevar, at this point, it’ll always gonna be his fault."
"It seems like he’s in the middle of a lot of things. I think that just comes with time. [...] But you hear so many guys talk about Hocevar and how frustrated they are with the way he races and the things that he does, it just seems like it’s all to be his fault at this particular point,” he continued.
Currently, Hocevar is placed P24 in the driver standings, accumulating 383 points.
