Despite giving a solid performance year after year, for the past 13 seasons, Justin Allgaier has not been able to win a championship in the NASCAR Xfinity Series. Recently, in a heartfelt conversation with Davey Segal, Allgaier drew parallels between his Xfinity career and Denny Hamlin's time in the Cup Series, noting his determination to keep competing as long as he's allowed on the track.
Justin Allgaier began his NASCAR career back in 2005 in the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series, transitioning to a full-time Xfinity Series driver in 2009 with Penske Championship Racing. Since making that switch, Allgaier has consistently finished strong, never ranking below seventh in the final driver standings, and achieving a career-best second place in 2020 and 2023 with JR Motorsports.
Reflecting on his elusive championship win despite frequent close calls, in an interview with Davey Segal, Justin Allgaier shared his thoughts:
"The only reason I would want to win one is kind of that closure of like- you finally got it right. And that's a great story. No different than any. I know Denny would It eats him up to not have the closure of ‘we did everything right it worked, right?’ Now that being said. Denny will go down as one of the best drivers in this generation regardless."
"No matter what happens when the last time you jump behind the wheel of a race car, you're gonna know that you left everything on the table when you even 100% every time you went into the race track. And none of us would be okay with walking out of the pit area knowing that we didn't give it 100%. And if it's not meant to be on that given day, then... You know, I'm gonna keep... I'm gonna keep digging until... I can't," he continued.
In the current season also, Justin Allgaier has already won a race at Darlington Raceway in May 2024, which guaranteed his spot in the playoffs. In addition to this win, he's notched five top-5 finishes and six top-10 finishes. It remains to be seen whether he can capture his first Xfinity championship title this year.
Justin Allgaier is all praises about his boss Dale Earnhardt Jr.
Justin Allgaier recently expressed great admiration for his boss, Dale Earnhardt Jr., appreciating his profound grasp of NASCAR—a trait he shares with his father, Dale Earnhardt. Allgaier recalled his initial discussions with Dale Jr. prior to joining JR Motorsports in 2016, spotlighting how well both Dale Jr. and his sister, Kelly, understand the nuances of racing. He said:
"I think he understands the racing world probably is good or better than anybody around, right? I think he's very in tune. He's very much like his dad in that regard. Him and Kelly both- they understand the sport from the inside out really, really well." at [0:16]
Justin Allgaier also shared that Dale Jr. apologized for a deal with HScott Motorsports that didn't pan out, showing his integrity even though he wasn't directly responsible.
Currently, Justin Allgaier is in a strong position in the Xfinity Series, holding second place in the standings with 705 points.
