Frankie Muniz secured a full-time seat in the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series, where he will pilot the #33 Ford F-150 for Reaume Brothers Racing. The actor recently spoke about landing his first full-time gig in NASCAR.
Before transitioning to racing, Muniz rose to fame with his lead role in Malcolm in the Middle and movies like Agent Cody Banks and Big Fat Liar. He regularly competed in the ARCA Menards Series and joined the NASCAR Xfinity Series part-time with Joey Gase Motorsports, debuting at Daytona in the United Rentals 300.
In a recent episode of Dale Earnhardt Jr.'s Dirty Mo Media podcast, Frankie Muniz reflected on his Hollywood career, saying he felt like an "outsider", and how being a professional race car driver feels like he's "where he's supposed to be".
"I never fully felt like, and I don't mean this in a negative way, I always felt like a little bit of an outsider when I was in Hollywood, you know what I mean?" Muniz said.
"I just never felt like I was part of that Hollywood world. As a race car driver, even though I'm still new in it, when I'm at the racetrack, I feel like it's where I'm supposed to be, if that makes sense. I'll be 39 next year, so I'm older than most of the moms of the kids who I'm racing against. But it's all right, I'm ready for the challenge," he added.
Frankie Muniz will take part in the Baptist Health 200 Truck Series race at Homestead-Miami. Catch him live on NBC Sports, MRN, and SiriusXM NASCAR Channel on 26 October at 12:00 PM ET.
“It’s not subjective”: Frankie Muniz highlights differences between NASCAR and Hollywood
Frankie Muniz recently outlined key differences between his acting career and his stint as a motorsports athlete. He feels that acting does not have a measure, unlike the leaderboard in NASCAR, which is very definitive with how you have been performing.
In a recent episode of Dale Earnhardt Jr.'s Dirty Mo Media podcast, the Malcolm in The Middle star said:
"The one amazing thing about that I love, definitely compared to being an actor, is it's not subjective," Muniz said. "I put my soul into a character and people see that and they were like meh, it was okay."
"(In NASCAR) if you're good and you belong, you're at the top of the leaderboard. At least (you) can see where you stand. I love that," he added.
Besides racing in the Truck and Xfinity Series, the Hollywood start-turned-professional racer has had considerable success in the Auto Racing Club of America(ARCA) Menards Series as well, where he secured 12 top-ten finishes in 22 race starts.
