Tyler Reddick was not happy with his top-3 performance in the Ally 400 on Sunday (June 30) at Nashville Superspeedway. The 23XI Racing driver felt his number 45 Toyota was in a position to win the race, given that the other drivers faced fuel issues due to the 331-lap race going into quintuple overtime.

Reddick was visibly frustrated at not being able to hold off Joey Logano during the final dash for the win. The #45 team made their final pit stop right before the first overtime. By the time NASCAR announced the fifth and last overtime, Reddick was among the top 10 cars on the field.

After that, Reddick steered forth and chased Logano down, running P2 coming off Turn 4. When NASCAR waved the white flag, it came down to a battle between Reddick and Logano.

However, the latter blocked the former while Spire Motorsports driver Zane Smith rode down the backstretch. As a result, Smith managed to finish second, and Reddick finished behind him.

During the media interaction following the race, a reporter asked Reddick if the latter thought he could have done anything differently about the same, to which, the Californian replied:

"Everything. It's very disappointing. I'm trying my best but it's tough…trying to keep it cool at the moment. I'm really upset about how that ended."

Reflecting on his top-3 finish, Reddick added:

"All the good cars ran out of fuel and we were in a position to pass the 22. Hadn't been good all day long. Didn't get the job done."

Tyler Reddick is currently in his fifth full-time season in the NASCAR Cup Series. His first victory in the Cup Series came at Road America, back when he used to drive for Richard Childress Racing. Last year, Tyler Reddick recorded two wins; at Kansas and COTA.

The two-time NASCAR Xfinity Series champion is looking forward to bagging his second win of the season, with his most recent triumph coming at Talladega Superspeedway.

"This is a big one" - Joey Logano on his win despite Tyler Reddick's fuel advantage

Team Penske driver Joey Logano grabbed the lead after Joe Gibbs Racing duo, Denny Hamlin and Martin Truex Jr., made their respective pit stops. However, Logano's crew chief Paul Wolfe did not call him back for a refuel, as the latter knew it would make the Ford driver lose valuable positions.

Wolfe's strategy worked as Logano, despite being low on fuel, emerged victorious. However, Logano knew that Tyler Reddick was in a better position as far as fuel mileage was concerned.

"There wasn’t a drop of fuel to spare, my fuel light came on in turn three and that was it, we had just enough fuel to spit and sputter across the line,” Logano recalled during a media interaction after the race. “Tyler (Reddick) had the fastest car at the end, but we were able to stay in front of him. I’ve never been involved in a fuel-mileage race before. This is a big one."

Currently, Joey Logano sits 14th in the Cup Series standings with 470 points. On the other hand, Tyler Reddick is 4th with 611 points to his credit. Reddick is just 10 points behind his boss and Joe Gibbs Racing driver, Denny Hamlin.

Their next race is on July 7 at the Chicago Road Course, which will air live on NBC Sports and Peacock with radio updates on MRN and SiriusXM NASCAR Radio.
