"I'm slow; I want to race more": Kevin Harvick admits struggles but teases expanded racing role in 2025

NASCAR veteran Kevin Harvick recently raced at the historic North Wilkesboro Speedway for the zMAX CARS Tour race. The former Cup Series driver drove the #62 Late Model Stock car for the second time this year at the CARS Tour event, an auto racing series co-owned by Dale Earnhardt Jr, Jeff Burton, Justin Marks, and the 48-year-old Harvick.

During the practice session, 2014 Cup Series champion Harvick opened up about his learnings to a reporter from FloRacing:

"I learned that I’m slow. That’s what I learned the most, and you know it’s hard to come in here and compete with these guys when they race all the time."

After retiring from Stewart-Haas Racing at the end of the 2023 season, Harvick was seen calling races and serving as an analyst for Fox Sports. He is also active on his Harvick's Happy Hour podcast. In the interview, Harvick added:

"I’ve been able to be around the cars a lot since I got done with my yearly job at FOX and have been able to be a part of the teams and be at a lot of the races and looking to have some fun."

He also teased a potential comeback to the track next year, saying he's understood he wants to race more.

"I'll be able to do more of this next year now that I know I wanna race, more next year so we can plan around that." Harvick said.

Originally scheduled during the NASCAR All-Star Race weekend, the 125-lap short track event was rescheduled on August 3. The race witnessed Harvick securing a P11 finish. This was his second start behind the #62 Chevrolet for Kevin Harvick Incorporated. Previously, the Bakersfield native claimed a 13th-place finish at Five Flags Speedway on June 28.


A brief look into Kevin Harvick's illustrious NASCAR career

Kevin Harvick claimed the 2014 Cup Series title in his debut season with Stewart-Haas Racing, piloting the #4. He was also the 2001 and 2006 Xfinity Series champion.

In 23-plus years of high-octane racing, Harvick amassed 60 Cup wins and 444 top-10 finishes in 826 races. The 2007 Daytona 500 race winner is ranked third in the all-time win list behind seven-time Cup champion Richard Petty and two-time champion Kyle Busch.

His last race in the Cup Series was at the Phoneix Raceway in 2023 where he crossed the checkered flag at P7. Harvick is also the winningest driver with nine wins at the 1-mile championship track.

After announcing his retirement, Harvick is seemingly keen to demonstrate his prowess at the ovals and participate in a lot more races soon.
