Towards the end of the race at Michigan in 2006, Dale Earnhardt Jr. and race leader Carl Edwards made contact. This resulted in the #60 driver being left spinning down the track, which brought out a caution, ensuring Dale Earnhardt Jr. won the race.

However, after the race, Junior, a fan favorite, heard something he hadn't heard a lot of before. It was loud boos from the crowd who believed Earnhardt Jr. did Edwards wrong having seen the replay of the incident on the big screen afterwards.

But from his perspective, Dale Earnhardt Jr. didn't think he did anything wrong to Carl Edwards. In a post-race interview, the #8 DEI driver said:

"I didn't mean to spin him out. I don't go around wrecking people. I wouldn't have waited two years to get back at him for wrecking me in Atlanta in 2004 pretty much the same way. We got a run off that corner, and Carl just got sideways and he wasn't in the gas. I guess he was pretty mad at me, but there wasn't much I could do."

Earnhardt Jr. further claimed that he left his hand out the window, which Edwards could've taken, but he chose not to. To the #8 driver, that said 'pretty stupid' and 'just rude' from Edwards.

From Carl Edwards' perspective, the story was different as he said that Dale Earnhardt Jr. 'just wrecked' him off of turn 2.

Dale Earnhardt Jr. didn't like Bubba Wallace being booed at Darlington in 2023

Speaking on his podcast in 2023, Dale Earnhardt Jr. addressed fans booing Bubba Wallace at Darlington. The 23XI Racing driver received a lot of boos from the NASCAR faithful during the driver's introduction on the track nicknamed 'Too Tough to Tame.'

This was something that the record most popular driver award winner, Dale Jr., didn't approve of. He relived the incident, saying that as soon as Wallace got introduced and walked across the stage, there was 'this guy' in front of him, Carl Edwards and Matt Kenseth, who shouted and asked the #23 driver to go home 'as loud as he could.'

Earnhardt added:

"It was so obnoxious. I really wanted to jump down there and go, ‘Hey, could you stop? Is this really what you want to do right in this moment? Is this how you want to behave right now in front of all these incredible people that you’re standing in front of? Richard Petty and all these legends, you’re going to be acting this way?’"

Having said that, Bubba Wallace stated in an interview that his being booed is a weekly affair for him, and that it's 'always gonna be there' in the sport.
