Part-time NASCAR driver Katherine Legge recently came out and expressed her love for motorsports as she sat down for an interview before the 2025 Chili Bowl Nationals. The Briton revealed what her goals are for the upcoming year and what racing series she's targeting to get a drive for in 2025.
The 44-year-old and has been professionally racing open-wheel cars since the 2000s in the junior Formula Ford and Formula Renault categories. A British national, she spent the initial years of her career in the European open-wheel scene before moving to America to race in IndyCar.
However, the move to the US kindled a joy for stock car racing in Legge as she is actively trying to participate in more NASCAR races for the upcoming season. Speaking about her love for motorsports and pursuit of being a NASCAR driver, Katherine Legge said (via Sportsnaut):
“I love it. I would do everything that I could possibly do to do more of it. I love racing and at this stage of my life, I would race a shopping cart if that was the only thing available to me. Would I do more IndyCar stuff? Absolutely. Would I do more Sports Car stuff? Absolutely. Would I do more NASCAR stuff? Yes.
“I honestly have not grinned this much, from ear to ear in a long time, so I am actively trying to do more Stock Car racing and things like the Chili Bowl, oval racing in general. Like, I just want to be the best driver I can be. I want to have fun. I am extremely grateful and it doesn’t escape me that these opportunities don’t come around very often and to just anyone.
“I want to make the most of it and make the people around me proud and to leave some kind of legacy and all the things, right? So I am actively trying to do more stock car racing and I’ll put it like that,” she added.
Katherine Legge was announced as the test driver for the Minardi F1 team in 2005 after multiple years of junior Formula experience under her belt. She moved to race in the Champ car (now IndyCar) in 2006 and after two average years, finishing 16th and 15th in the championship, moved to race in DTM.
Since then, she's made multiple returns to the world of IndyCar as a part-time driver with her most recent races being the Indy 500 with Rahal Letterman Lanigan in 2023 and Dale Coyne Racing in 2024. She also raced as a part-timer in the NASCAR Xfinity Series for JD Motorsports in 2018 and SS Green Light Racing in 2023.
