In 2023, Justin Allgaier claimed victory in the first NASCAR playoff race at Bristol and made a place for himself in the Round of Eight. After the win, he attended a party organized by JR Motorsports, where he shared his deep trust for the Dale Earnhardt-co-owned team.
Allgaier had a fascinating 2023 season, winning races at Charlotte and Daytona and qualifying for the playoffs. In the playoffs, he claimed the victory at the Food City 300 on September 15 last year.
The 38-year-old driver started the Bristol race from 10th on the grid, but he got the better of eight drivers in front, and finished Stage 1 in second place, behind pole sitter Cole Custer. Allgaier went on to win Stage 2 and took the Checkered Flag almost unchallenged. As a result, he registered the win and fetched himself the ticket to the Round of eight.
"You know to win in the first round of playoffs obviously makes this next two weeks a lot of fun for us," Justin Allgaier said. "But we also got a lot of work to do and I know you guys have put in countless hours to make sure that all four of our race cars are faster five like we had this past weekend."
"I can tell you though, racing with everybody this week and getting to battle everybody and to battle Dale, you know it was pretty awesome. You know to see all five of our cars up there running you know, things didn't end in the way they wanted to, but I really believe in this company, in the effort you guys have put in," he added. JR Motorsports had a brilliant 2023 Xfinity Series season with its drivers, Justin Allgaier and his teammates, Sam Mayer, Austin Hill, and Ty Gibbs. The team etched in five victories going into the playoffs.
In the playoffs, JR Motorsports drivers claimed another four in six races and qualified for Championship 4. However, they lost out to Cole Custer of Stewart-Haas Racing in the season-ending at Phoenix. JR Motorsports did everything they could, but failed to clinch the ultimate glory, something they did not miss out on in 2024.
Justin Allgaier and JR Motorsports scripted history in 2024
After they lost out on the precious championship in 2023, Justin Allgaier and JR Motorsports made sure they did not repeat the same mistake in 2024. The Dale Earnhardt co-owned team finally claimed their lost championship after Justin Allgaier edged Cole Custer at Phoenix.
Even though Riley Herbst of Stewart-Haas Racing claimed the victory at the season-ending race at Phoenix, it was enough for Allgaier to secure the title, thanks to a superior cushion in terms of points. Allgaier finished the season with 4035 points, six more than Custer.
This was Allgaier's first-ever Xfinity Series championship, which he claimed after 471 races, 24 wins, and 14 years of racing. The #7 driver signed a contract extension to see him stay with JR Motorsports until the end of 2026.
