NASCAR veteran Justin Allgaier has surpassed his team owner and NASCAR legend Dale Earnhardt Jr. in the all-time Xfinity Series. #7 Chevy driver Allgaier took the checkered flag at the Cabo Wabo 250 event at Michigan International Speedway for his 25th Xfinity career victory.
Speaking with SiriusXM NASCAR Radio, the 38-year-old credited his #7 crew at JR Motorsports after claiming his first victory at the 2-mile D-shaped oval racetrack. Allgaier's fuel-mileage strategy worked in his favor when the race went on to an overtime finish.
"We've put ourselves in position so many times to win one here and just seems like nothing has ever gone our way. And last year's a great example. I mean, we had arguably the best car and got spun on a pit road and just didn't have enough time to get back to the field. But I cannot say thank you enough to the team. Everybody in Junior Motorsports, everybody at the Hendrick motor shop," Allgaier said.
"Just going over everything he can possibly go through to just rebound and put ourselves in good position... And this team, everybody that's a part of it is really special. Everybody on the #7 pit crew, Aide de Han. I mean, just today we executed at a high level and to make it into the final rounds of these playoffs and to win a championship. So this one's going to be special for a while," he added.
The Illinois native is in his ninth full-time season with JR Motorsports, piloting the #7 Chevy. However, Allgaier has yet to win an Xfinity Series title. His best final standing has been runner-up finish in the 2023 Xfinity season behind Cole Custer.
With his second 2024 season win, Allgaier is now 12 points behind the table leader at P2 in the overall standings. He has also accumulated six top-fives and 12 top-10 finishes in 21 starts this 2024 season.

"I'm gonna keep digging" - Justin Allgaier shares his thoughts on not winning a championship title yet
In a career span of 15 years in the Xfinity Series, Justin Allgaier has competed in more than 450 races and has finished P2 in the final drivers' standings twice, in 2020 and 2023.
In an episode of Victory Lane with Davey Segal, Allgaier admitted to wanting closure by winning the championship. He said:
"No matter what happens when the last time you jump behind the wheel of a race car, you're gonna know that you left everything on the table when you gave 100% every time you went into the race track. And none of us would be okay with walking out of the pit area knowing that we didn't give it 100%."
"And if it's not meant to be on that given day, then I'm gonna keep digging until I can't," he added
Justin Allgaier and the NASCAR Xfinity Series will next compete for the Wawa 250 at Daytona International Speedway in Florida on August 23.
