Kyle Larson's recent comment on Max Verstappen came back to haunt him as the Hendrick Motorsports driver encountered a massive wreck at the Michigan race. Larson encountered a wreck that took him, as well as multiple drivers, out of the FireKeepers Casino 400 race at the Michigan International Speedway. Reacting to this, fans questioned Larson's legitimacy to compete against Verstappen.
As per the latest developments, Larson spun in turn 4 of the Michigan International Speedway track during stage two of the race. In doing so, he collected Bubba Wallace, Chris Buescher, Christopher Bell, and Todd Gilliland.
This has come days after the #5 driver claimed that he is a better driver than F1 champion Max Verstappen in the overall category. However, his latest wreck at Michigan not only put him on the back foot, but also fetched numerous negative comments from fans.
A fan wrote, "I was told this guy is better than Verstappen."
"Welp Verstappen fans gonna be pulling now," another fan wrote.
Another fan wrote with sarcasm, “Greatest race car driver in the world."
"Best driver in the world btw," wrote another fan.
"The worlds greatest driver looks like the worlds worst" another fan wrote.
"5 running out of talent again, no surprise," wrote another fan.
Despite such reactions, one cannot judge a driver based on a single race.
What did Kyle Larson say about Max Verstappen?
Days before the Michigan race, Kyle Larson claimed that he is better than F1 star Max Verstappen. Even though the Red Bull star has achieved 51 victories in the last 80 Grand Prix races, the Hendrick Motorsports driver begged to differ.
Here is what Larson said (responding to the question put forth by Flo Racing):
"There's probably no way I can go win a Formula 1 race at Monaco, but I think I'd have a better shot doing what he does than him doing what I do just because of the car element," Larson said. "That's what gives me ease and confidence that, like, I know I'm better than him."
Kyle Larson is entitled to his opinion about Max Verstappen. However, it is difficult to compare NASCAR with Formula 1, as is Larson with Verstappen.
