After 14 full-time seasons in the NASCAR Xfinity Series, Justin Allgaier finally reached the pinnacle when he became the 2024 champion last month at the Phoenix Raceway. The driver of the #7 JR Motorsports Chevrolet had a great support system behind him, not the least of which being his family.
Three weeks ago, while standing on the red carpet alongside his wife, Ashley, for the NASCAR Awards held in Charlotte, North Carolina, Allgaier expressed his appreciation for his wife's support through the highs and lows of his championship-winning season.
"I wouldn't trade it for the world," Allgaier said via Frontstretch. "It's amazing." (0:11 onwards)
Allgaier won two races this past season at Darlington and Michigan respectively, which qualified him for the playoffs. The Illinois native outlasted Cole Custer, A.J. Allmendinger, and Austin Hill by placing runner-up in the title race at Phoenix to become the champion for the first time in his career.
Along the way, Allgaier had his wife by his side who pushed him to keep going and never give up. Ashley recalls a moment at the Texas Motor Speedway where Allgaier believed his season was "done" and didn't have a shot at the championship.
"I'm like, 'I don't think you should be done,'" Ashley said. "Maybe in that moment, he didn't believe in himself maybe. I don't know, but I did, and I'm glad that he stuck it out." (0:36 onwards)
Allgaier went on to say that when he's in the moment racing, he wants success. The 25-time Xfinity Series winner believes everyone measures success differently. While Ashley sees her husband's ambitions and desire to win, Allgaier said he sometimes only sees the results, which is why he thinks he and his wife work so well together.
"That's how we balance each other out so well," Allgaier said. "I think she knew that if I was giving up and I was done trying, that it was time to quit, but that never happened." (1:06 onwards)
Dale Earnhardt Jr. said he "knew" Justin Allgaier would win the championship in awards speech
Justin Allgaier not only had the belief of his wife, Ashley, that he could win a NASCAR Xfinity Series championship, but he also had it from Dale Earnhardt Jr., his car owner. The owner of JR Motorsports revealed what he knew ahead of the championship race at Phoenix in his speech at the NASCAR Awards ceremony.
"For some reason, I just felt like the universe owed Justin and we were going to collect in Phoenix," Earnhardt said. "Even when we wrecked that race car, the car that he raced was the one that I drove, so I knew how good that car was in Bristol."
Allgaier crashed his #7 car in practice prior to the title race. He was forced to go to a backup car, the same car Earnhardt Jr. drove to a seventh-place finish at the Bristol Motor Speedway earlier in the year. In the end, Allgaier finished runner-up to race-winner Riley Herbst, a non-playoff driver, to win the championship.
The championship was the fourth for JR Motorsports. The organization has also won championships with the likes of Cup Series stars Chase Elliott, William Byron, and Tyler Reddick.
