Chandler Smith, who doesn’t have a ride, has provided an update on his plans for the 2025 NASCAR season. However, Smith hasn’t provided much detail on his plans but confirms he will be racing.
Following the NASCAR Xfinity Series race at Homestead-Miami Speedway, Smith confirmed he will not return to Joe Gibbs Racing next season and stated he could be working for his dad, Mike Smith, who is the owner of Smith General Contracting.
In an interview with Sportsnaut’s Matt Weaver, Chandler Smith shed light on his NASCAR future, hinting he has an exciting opportunity next season and will share the official confirmation in the upcoming weeks.
“I have some exciting things going on next year. I have signed something, and I think we’re going to share the news in the next couple of weeks,” Smith said.
However, there’s no confirmation where Chandler Smith will land in the 2025 season, but there has been speculation that he might compete part-time in the Cup or Xfinity Series.
It’s hard to digest that despite putting in a championship-caliber performance this past season, Smith lost his ride at JGR. Driving the #84 JGR Toyota Supra, he wrapped up the season with a five-place finish in the Xfinity Series championship standings, tallying two wins, 17 top-five finishes, and 22 top-10 finishes with an average finish of 10.2.
“I really was preparing to go work for my dad” – Chandler Smith
Chandler Smith is one of NASCAR's most promising young talents. While announcing his departure at JGR following the Homestead race, Smith was serious about pursuing a career in construction, a career path tied to his family’s background.
The 22-year-old Talking Rock, Georgia, native is a married man with a son named Chandler Smith Jr. and has the responsibility to raise his family. Without a part-time or full-time ride in NASCAR, he has to find a new way to fulfill their needs.
“I really was preparing to go work for my dad and it wasn’t easy. But we serve a loving God that has a purpose and a plan and I have always tried to keep in mind that there are more important things than racing. But I am looking forward next season to showcasing that talent that I was blessed with and all glory to Him,” Smith added.
It will be interesting to see what news Smith will announce about his NASCAR future in the upcoming weeks.
