Juan Pablo Montoya shared a new goal of buying a Mercedes G-Wagon in a recent interview. The 48-year-old has had a successful career in racing across Formula One, IndyCar, and NASCAR.
Montoya recorded two Indianapolis 500 wins (2000 and 2015) and seven Formula One Grand Prix victories (between 2001 and 2006) during his full-time racing career.
In a recent interview with The Athletic for the publication's "12 Questions" series, the $35M-worth Montoya (according to Celebrity Net Worth) revealed that he would like to buy a luxury SUV or travel somewhere to golf.
"Honestly, I want to buy a G-wagon Mercedes (the G-Class SUV). But to do something? Not really. We travel so much nowadays through the whole world that it would either be to buy something like a G-wagon or going somewhere to play golf," Montoya said.
Juan Pablo Montoya is back in the spotlight as he returns to NASCAR for a one-off race at Watkins Glen International. He will drive the No. 50 car for 23XI Racing this Sunday, September 15. This will be his first NASCAR appearance since 2014 with Team Penske.
Montoya earned two wins at Watkins Glen International and Sonoma Raceway over his 9-year NASCAR Cup Series career with more than 250 race starts. He is now a podcaster and continues to race sports cars. His 19-year-old son is following in his footsteps and pursuing a racing career of his own.
"I never got nervous about him getting hurt" - Juan Pablo Montoya on son's safety
Juan Pablo Montoya's son, Sebastián competes in Formula Three. He started racing for the first time at age 7.
When asked during the same interview, how stressful it is to watch his son race as a parent, Montoya said that he finds it exciting. However, he stresses about managing the sponsorship and teams.
"So at this level, it’s really stressful. It’s very exciting, but it’s very stressful. The other side that’s stressful is the funding and the sponsorship and the teams. The whole thing is like … I mean, driving is so much easier," Montoya said.
Juan Pablo Montoya further explained that he is not worried about his son's safety because he believes accidents can happen anywhere. His main concern is wanting Sebastián to perform well and succeed.
"I never got nervous about him getting hurt, because he can get hurt on a bicycle or on a motorcycle or on a jet ski or in a car or anything on the road. So that for me has never been the issue. The issue is you want him to do well and you want him to perform well and things to work out well," he added.
Sebastián Montoya finished 17th in the 2024 Formula Three season, with a best finish of second in Belgium.
