While Kyle Larson was doing a photo shoot during the NASCAR Playoff Media Day at Charlotte Convention Center, his Hendrick Motorsports teammate Alex Bowman came across a picture that showed little Larson from his junior sprint car days. And Bowman had an idea: he would sell it on eBay!
Alex Bowman drives the No. 48 Camaro for the Hendrick Motorsports. The Tucson, Arizona native joined the Chevy team in 2017, replacing Dale Earnhardt Jr. in the No. 88 car. He took over the No. 48 machine in 2020 following the retirement of 7-time Cup Series champion and Hall of Famer Jimmie Johnson.
Bowman took a pen from the fan who had given him the picture and scribbled a mustache under young Larson's nose. He then walked straight into the room where Larson was undergoing the photoshoot and asked the latter to sign the photo.
While signing the piece of memorabilia, a surprised Larson asked,
"Where did you find this this? You gotta frame this though."
"Personalize it. I wanna sell it on eBay," Bowman replied.
Larson penned the words "To my biggest fan, Alex" at the top left corner of the photo and signed it.
Both Bowman and Larson are locked in this year's playoff rumble. The Hendrick Motorsports duo will be seen racing alongside each other at Atlanta Motor Speedway on 8 September. Fans can watch the race (3 PM ET onwards) on NBC Sports and hear live updates on PRN and SiriusXM NASCAR Radio.
Alex Bowman addresses "rumors" about Hendrick Motorsports exit
Before winning at Chicago this year, Alex Bowman was on a winless streak for over two years. He missed several races in 2022 due to a concussion and more in 2023 due to a back injury. Missing those regular season races had considerable setbacks in his respective seasons.
Therefore, several fans wondered if it was time for HMS to part ways with the 31-year-old driver. However, the man himself shunned those rumors while speaking to the media members during the NASCAR Media Day in Charlotte.
"That rumor has certainly been annoying," said Bowman.
Last year, Bowman signed a three-year contract with the Number 48 HMS team, that keeps him behind the wheel of the No. 48 till the end of 2026. Reconfirming the news, the speedster said, via motorsport.com:
"Obviously, my contract is through the end of 2026. All I can tell you is like what my bosses have told me, and that is that there are no plans to change anything. Yeah, rumors are just rumors. Hopefully they’ll get their announcements done so my rumors stop, obviously. Yeah, as far as I know, I’m driving the No. 48 next year."
As the rumor ceases to exist, Bowman will now prepare for the upcoming race, which starts in less than three days. In his 12 starts, he has two top 5s and a top 10 finish at Atlanta. Will he win his way to the Round of 12?
