Greg Biffle sat down and shared his heroic Hurricane Helene helicopter relief missions experience. Despite the huge recognition Biffle was getting, he won’t take credit for it, saying many people had stories just like his.
Named one of NASCAR’s 75 greatest drivers, Greg Biffle is a former professional race car driver who won championships in the Xfinity and Trucks Series. While he didn't secure a championship in the Cup Series, he amassed 19 wins and 13 poles in 515 starts.
In his latest YouTube post, Greg Biffle shared his experience flying his personal helicopter for sending supplies and search-and-rescue efforts.
“We’re flying about 150 missions per day of civilian helicopters and fixed-wing aircraft. I think the one day was 165 missions around to 200 per airport,” Biffle said. [8:12]
The 54-year-old Washington native continued by saying he won’t take credit for such actions.
“I don’t want to take credit for this whole thing. Certainly, I’m getting a lot of credit. There are so many people that havestories just like mine.” [8:30]
Greg Biffle said he called a friend, who owns a Bell 407, to join him in his Hurricane Helene helicopter relief missions. He then received calls from unknown contacts, telling him they wanted to participate in the relief missions using their helicopters.
Dale Earnhardt Sr.’s former NASCAR crew chief Andy Petree was also among the people who flew their helicopter for rescue missions. Biffle shared that Petree bought and flew fuel cans to affected areas so people could power their generators.
“I’m not the only one that dropped everything for two weeks,” Biffle stated. [10:06]
Reports say more than 250 people died from Hurricane Helene, including 123 in North Carolina, home of NASCAR.
Greg Biffle was honored for his heroic actions at Charlotte Motor Speedway
NASCAR honored Greg Biffle for his Hurricane Helene helicopter relief missions at the Bank of America Roval 400 from Charlotte Motor Speedway. He served as the honorary starter and waved the green flag to start the race.
In an X (formerly Twitter) post, the former driver thanked NASCAR for honoring him at Charlotte.
“Thanks for hosting our family and friends today @nascar @CLTMotorSpdwy had fun waving the green flag to get the race started and was cool to see the helicopters flying above before,” Biffle wrote.
Greg Biffle also received a standing ovation during the driver’s meeting. The video below was posted by RFK Racing, the team Biffle drove for in his Cup days.
The race witnessed a reconfigured track layout where turns 7 and 16 were sharper. When the flag fell, Kyle Larson took victory after starting 6th. He was trailed by Christopher Bell and Hendrick Motorsports teammate William Byron, respectively.
Four playoff drivers, including Austin Cindric, Daniel Suarez, and Chase Briscoe were eliminated after the race. Joey Logano was also eliminated but was reinstated into playoff contention after Alex Bowman got disqualified for failing to meet weight requirements post-race.
The next stop will be at Las Vegas Motor Speedway for the opening race of Round of 8.
