Ryan Blaney and Chase Elliott once shared their wardrobe back in 2018. Blaney revealed that he had "no clothes" at that point because he jumped into a pool.
Ryan Blaney's career took a significant turn in 2018 when he joined Team Penske. He went on to win the Cup Series championship with the team in 2023. But beyond his racing prowess, Blaney also faced some interesting personal challenges during his time there.
Speaking on the Glass Case of Emotion podcast, Elliott explained the system of clothing that NASCAR drivers follow. He revealed that they carry minimal clothing in their trucks when going for a race. There was also a discussion regarding a "Chase Elliott" shirt that Blaney wore at the time.
Blaney explained that he'd held onto the shirt since Daytona, when Elliott had given it to him. He said he was wearing Elliott's shirt and pants because he'd lost all his clothes after jumping into a pool and all his belongings were still in the truck. He had only brought a backpack with him and no spare clothes
"I said you only had like four or five shirts in your bus right along with underwear and other stuff like that but I thought it was appropriate," Blaney said (at 1:24). "I left it at your [Elliott's] house though. Yeah, I got pushed in the pool in. No, actually no I didn't, put a jump in. and your shirt and your pants I was wearing your pants because I had no clothes. [I had] nothing because like he said we have clothes on the bus so you don't bring a suitcase with you so I just had my backpack and so I had to go to a Dollar General and get some underwear and socks." (1:24 onwards)
Ryan Blaney appeared on the podcast whilst wearing Chase Elliott's shorts
As Ryan Blaney explained why he was wearing Chase Elliott's clothes, he revealed that the shorts he was wearing at the time also belonged to the latter. As they chuckled about it, Elliott said that he would wash the shorts after getting them back from Blaney.
"These are your shorts by the way. I gotta give them to you at Michigan," Blaney said. (2:05 onwards)
"Trust me out get him back I'll wash them," Elliott replied.
Before this conversation, Elliott had recently won his first Cup Series race at Watkins Glen. Both drivers had qualified for the playoffs, with Blaney finishing the season in 10th place and Elliott in 6th
