Former NASCAR Cup Series driver Dale Earnhardt Jr. is a part-time gamer and recently dropped one more major update on NASCAR's upcoming project. The sanctioning association partnered with the popular online multiplayer racing platform iRacing to develop its new console game.
Earnhardt Jr. showcased his excitement for the upcoming project and highlighted that T.J. Majors would be the in-game spotter. However, the developers are still trying to find a perfect music theme for the game. Earnhardt Jr. mentioned that his great friend Steve Myers asked him to help pick the songs.
Dale Earnhardt Jr. shared a tweet on his X account asking his fans to contribute their expertise in finding the prefect song. He pointed out that the thread was filled with the name of Molly Hatchet, an American rock band formed in 1971 by the lead guitarist Dave Hlubek in Jacksonville. The 50-year-old added (via Dirty Mo Meda):
"If you read the thread, Molly Hatchet. Molly Hatchet, Molly Hatchet, flirt with disaster. When you think of console games for NASCAR over the years, there are a couple songs that were kind of iconic or memorable because of that specific game. I think most people connect the NASCAR console library to flirt and with disaster." [00:46]
JR Motorsports co-owner Dale Earnhardt Jr.'s co-host questioned him about the cost to buy rights to the songs used in the game and replied:
"It'll be fun to see really kind of what kind of budget we have, what kind of expense this will cost. I'm gonna learn so much through this process. We have every intention, every intention, if it's not on there it was because it was impossible to Get it on there." [01:18]
Earnhardt Jr. concluded that the project would be a new experience for him and help him learn several things through developing the game.
Dale Earnhardt Jr. opened up about playing "Hell Get Loose," a WWII combat game
Apart from being a former Cup Series driver, Dale Earnhardt Jr. spends his free time chilling and gaming with his friends. During an episode of Dirty Mo Media Jr., he opened up about his experience of playing the first-person shooting video game.
Hell Let Loose is an online multiplayer tactical shooting game developed in 2021. The game is compatible with all platforms, including Windows, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X, and S. The theme is taken from the scenes based on the Western, North African, and Eastern fronts, giving it a realistic touch in the game.
Dale Earnhardt Jr. played the game with his production house colleagues, including TJ Majors and Freddie Kraft. The 50-year-old said:
"Hell Let Loose is a first-person shooter, World War II era, and we played sometimes, TJ. But I like automatic riflemen. I don't know why I feel like that gives me an edge, but it probably doesn't. A lot of people go straight toward the objective. I kind of like to go away. I'm a flanker. I'm flanking. I'm like acres away." (0:06 onwards)."
"The commander comes over. Junior, what are you doing way over there? Because they can see where your guys are. Yeah, the commander's cussing at you. What are you doing down there? And then when you meet somebody, you're like, I caught the flankers down here. What do you think I'm doing? Down here, catching the other flankers. Don't tell me how to play. Oh man, I hate that," he added (0:40 onwards).
The game provides Earnhardt Jr. with a public platform to showcase his unique strategies with bold gameplay.
The 50-year-old's team JR Motorsports ended up having a successful Xfinity Series in 2024, with Justin Allgaier winnning the championship. Sam Mayer finished ninth while Sammy Smith ended in 11th position. Brandon Jones ended the 2024 season in 14th place.
