Ryan Blaney and his fiancé Gianna Tulio attended the 32nd edition of the annual ESPY Awards hosted at the Dolby Theatre, Hollywood. The Team Penske driver was up for the 'Driver of The Year' Award and marked his appearance to honor WNBA's Caitlin Clark.
The Excellence in Sports Performance Yearly Awards or ESPYs is an annual award show that recognizes individuals for their contribution to their respective sports. This year's host was Serena Williams, who opened the show with her one-liners. The award system spans 22 categories, honoring the best players from the previous year.
Ryan Blaney was nominated for the 'Best Driver' or 'Driver of The Year' award, courtesy of his defending 2023 Cup Series title, with three wins, eight top-5s, and 18 top-10s. However, the 3x F1 world champion Max Verstappen seized the fate by ending 2023 with the most wins ever (19 from 22 races) in a season.
The Team Penske driver attended the award show with Gianna Tulio and shared images with his fiance as the couple got photographed on the red carpet. Blaney donned a two-piece suit over a white shirt with buttons of different colors while Tulio wore a white front-slit dress (via Instagram).
Ryan Blaney believes NASCAR's presence at the ESPYs can help with the sport's awareness across masses
Ryan Blaney is set to kick off his 21st Cup Series weekend at the Pocono Raceway. He arrived in Pocono at 1 am on Saturday. In addition to marking his presence in Hollywood for the ESPYs, the Ohio native went to New York City for the 'Today Show' and visited a Sportico Sports and Entertainment Summit.
Unlike his general schedule over the year which largely includes endorsement shoots, practice runs, and racing, the current week was quite long for Blaney.
"It was New York, doing the TODAY show, went right to LA for the ESPYs, did a variety in Sportico summit that next morning, and then flew right here, got into the track at about 1 AM this morning. So, it was definitely a long week," Blaney said (via Dustin Albino's X handle).
The #12 Ford Mustang driver then shed light on how NASCAR's presence at the globally recognized award show could help boost the high-octane motorsport's allure across the sphere.
"I think to have a NASCAR presence there is good, right? You meet a bunch of people, they get interested in your sport. You're just spreading this awareness like the hardest thing is how do you get people interested in your sport who don't watch it," Blaney said (0.28).
Ryan Blaney will initiate his Pocono race from eighth place on the grid with Ty Gibbs as the polesitter.
