NASCAR star Tony Stewart and his wife Leah Pruett recently went on a holiday to explore the island of Alcatraz in San Francisco. Pruett shared pictures of the trip on Instagram as the couple took some time off during the NASCAR Cup Series break and enjoyed tourist activities.
Alcatraz is a former maximum security prison located on a rocky island in the San Francisco Bay. It was considered to be a nearly escape-proof fort that served as a military prison and maximum-security penitentiary and operated from 1934 to 1963.
The trip comes while NASCAR is on a rare break for the Paris Olympics. Leah Pruett posted several photos from their visit to the popular tourist spot with the caption:
"Alcatraz tourist things 🗝️ #alcatraz #bumpin."
Fans commented on the photos and joked about Tony’s casual attire and the couple’s break.
Tony Stewart is a four-time NASCAR Cup Series champion and his wife Leah Pruett is a drag racer. She started racing at a young age and joined Tony Stewart Racing in 2022.
Leah has won 11 NHRA events and finished third last season but decided to take a break from racing in 2023 to focus on her family.
The couple got married in 2021 and are expecting their first child in November. Stewart joked about becoming a father in an interview with Forbes:
"I have zero setup sheets and zero knowledge about. My wife laughs at me because I have a ‘Daddy App’ that gives me hints and tips every day.”
Tony Stewart's team to close doors after 2024
Stewart will end his role as a NASCAR Cup Series team owner after the 2024 season. His team, Stewart-Haas Racing, will cease operations after 15 successful years in NASCAR.
“It’s going to be a very big change to not be a part of it from a driver or owner side,” Stewart said in the same interview.
Tony Stewart and co-owner Gene Haas have decided to sell their four NASCAR Cup Series charters. The team, which won the Cup Series championship in 2011 and 2014, hasn’t named the buyers yet.
SHR has faced challenges recently and hasn’t won a Cup Series race since 2022. The team has 69 Cup wins and 22 Xfinity Series victories overall.
“We’re proud of all the wins and championships we’ve earned since joining together in 2009, but even more special is the culture we built and the friendships we forged as we committed to a common cause – winning races and collecting trophies,” the team said in a statement.
