Kenny Wallace recently inquired Riley Herbst about his primary sponsor, Monster Energy's continued sponsorship for the 2025 Cup season from the Xfinity Series. The 25-year-old Herbst has bagged a ride with 23XI Racing, piloting the #35 Toyota Camry.
In a recent post on his X handle, former NASCAR driver Wallace candidly requested information from the former Stewart-Haas Racing driver Herbst on his concealed business-to-business marketing deal between the famed energy drink and his Herbst family-owned-gas station company, Terrible Herbst, on the West Coast. Wallace said:
"I understand sponsorship more than anybody. I'm gonna bet you see that Riley Herbs got Monster energy drink as his sponsor. I'm betting, I think they [Terrible Herbst] got like 98 gas stations like a lot like enough to make a difference. I'm betting that Terrible Herbst, Riley Herbs's family, I bet they're gonna say, 'We will put the Monster energy drink in our stores if you do this.' So that's the way that works, right?" [6:10]
In his Coffee with Kenny conversation, the 61-year-old Wallace also publically asked the three-time Xfinity race winner of this sponsorship deal and applauded him if it did happen.
"Riley Herbst, I know you watch this. Is it a B-to-B deal? Because that's interesting. I think it's fantastic because I'm a sponsor a hunting guy. I think that's fantastic. So Riley, Does the gas stations, do you trade out with Monster energy drink? Is that the way that works, put all the Monster energy drinks in the gas stations. And so I think that's awesome," Wallace added.
The Las Vegas, Nevada native Herbst is set to join Bubba Wallace and Tyler Reddick in a third charter, reportedly acquired from the now-defunct SHR at the Michael Jordan-owned 23XI.
"It's an honor to join 23XI and Toyota": Riley Herbst makes his feelings known for his rookie 2025 Cup Series season
Riley Herbst started his full-time NASCAR career with Joe Gibbs Racing in the 2020 Xfinity Series season. He then transitioned to SHR the next season and was a part of Ford's roster until its announcement of departure earlier this year. Herbst will now reunite with the manufacturer under the famed Denny Hamlin-owned 23XI Racing.
Soon after its announcement, the future #35 Toyota driver opened up on starting his rookie season in the Cup Series.
"It's an honor to join 23XI and Toyota for the opportunity to race in the Cup Series each week," Riley Herbst said in a press release. "Racing full-time in the Cup Series has been my goal since I started in NASCAR and I’m excited to start my Cup career with such an accomplished and driven team. What 23XI has accomplished in a short time is impressive and I look forward to building on their success as the organization grows. It's also great to continue representing Monster and I'm excited about adding to their legacy in NASCAR."
Riley Herbst ended the 2024 NASCAR Xfinity season at P7 in the final Drivers' standings. He secured wins at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway race and the final Phoenix Raceway race.
