Hendrick Motorsports icon Kyle Larson is all set to compete in the 63rd edition of the NOS Energy Drink Knoxville Nationals. Last year, the 2021 Cup Series champion led all 50 laps of the Sprint Car event in Knoxville, Iowa. He now stands a chance for back-to-back wins and his third overall, having won in 2021 as well.

Larson drives the No. 5 Chevy Camaro ZL1 in the Cup Series. He has amassed the most wins this year so far and is looking forward to bagging his second Cup Series Championship. His most recent win came at the Brickyard 400 on July 21. The Elk Grove native currently leads the field with 749 points.

Besides his achievements in the NASCAR arena, Kyle Larson is an expert in piloting winged sprint cars. This year, "Yung Money" (as his fans often call him) has entered contention as the driver of the No. 57 Silva Motorsports machine. It is also his third attempt at the event.

Sportsnaut journalist Matt Weaver recently posted the Knoxville Nationals Qualifying schedule for Night 1. The rest of the field, including Kyle Larson, will return for the qualifying session on Thursday.

"Wednesday Knoxville Nationals qualifying night schedule and entry list," wrote Weaver. "Half the field tonight and the other half tomorrow. Those who don't transfer into the Saturday A go to Hard Knox Friday with one more chance to avoid having to make a deep run."

Kyle Larson shot to victory on Monday at the Front Row Challenge at Southern Iowa Speedway and won a cash prize of $21,000. Prior to that, he had secured victory in the 30-lap event at Federated Auto Parts Raceway at I-55, holding off James McFadden of Roth Motorsports by 0.053 seconds.

All about the Qualifying for Knoxville Nationals 2024

The drivers are awarded points for every qualifying lap they make. The fastest driver is awarded 200 points, with a 2-point deduction for every driver behind him (200-198-196, and so on). The top 50 qualifying drivers make it to the heat races.

The drivers who fail to make it to the top 50 get an opportunity to enter the C-Main through the Last Chance Heats. If there are less than 50 entrants in the qualifying sessions, the Last Chance Heats are called off. The winner of the Last Chance Heats receives 50 points, with a 3-point reduction for every position after that.

The top four finishers in the Heats qualify for the 25-lap A-Main. The drivers finishing fifth, sixth, seventh, and eighth move on to the B-Main. The P9 and P10 finishers go to the C-Main. The rest of the field will be left battling for a spot in the main event through Friday's FVP Hard Knox Qualifying Night.

The winner of the Knoxville Nationals will take home a cash prize of $190,000, with an additional $15,000 just to advance to the finals. Only 27 drivers have won the prestigious event and only eight, including Larson, have won it more than once.
