Dale Earnhardt Jr. expressed his critical thoughts on Josh Berry's DNF at the Hollywood 400 on Sunday, September 29, 2024, at Kansas Speedway. Berry was declared out of the race after the multicar accident in the first lap because all of his tires blew out and he couldn't pit. The legendary NASCAR driver pointed out that Berry should have been allowed to race and raised questions on NASCAR's DVP policy.
Speaking on the Dale Jr. Download podcast, the NASCAR legend stated that there were several reasons for the DVP implementation. He raised the question, "Is it perfect? Maybe not." Further, Junior highlighted that he wanted to see Berry finish the race given the situation.
Dale Earnhardt Jr. emphasized that the cars cost around $250,000 to build and countless man-hours in the shop; additionally, the teams need to haul the cars across the country. Continuing further, he added:
"NASCAR has definitely got to assist in getting the teams the ability to finish that race. I'm hoping in offseason they'll look at how they can adjust the policy without ruining the intent of the policy. No one wants the rule to go away" (via Dirty Mo Media on X). [00:23]
The JR Motorsports owner asked NASCAR to review their rules closely and make sure what changes were "fair."
Dale Earnhardt Jr. defended Chase Brsicoe's move at the Kansas Speedway
Dale Earnhardt Jr. defended Chase Briscoe over the Kyle Busch spinning incident, pointing out that Briscoe did nothing wrong. Earnhardt Jr. sided with the 29-year-old and opined that Busch should have figured out how to overtake in a tight spot.
The two-time Cup Series Champion gapped Ross Chastain and headed toward Briscoe for the lead, but things didn't go as Busch planned, and he hit the guard rails, ultimately spinning him out of the track. The RCR driver was not happy with Briscoe's move and called him out for not giving him enough space to pass. But NASCAR legend Dale Earnhardt Jr. disagreed with Busch and said:
"Kyle Busch is not racing for the playoffs, he's not racing to move forward in the next round. Does Briscoe react differently if that's a playoff driver? I'm not gonna sit here and tell you that Chase Briscoe did something wrong because he didn't. He just ran the line, he said, 'Imma run this line and it's your job to figure out how to get around it.' Kyle got into the wall and wrecked out" (via Dirty Mo Media on X). [00:00]
The Hall of Fame NASCAR driver highlighted that the sport has changed over time and the intensity has progressed over the years. The incident resulted in Kyle Busch continuing his winless streak in 30 races.
