Joey Logano discussed how etching his name on the NASCAR Championship trophy means more for the team than him. The Team Penske driver won his third Cup Series title and Roger Penske's fifth overall as an owner.
Days after clinching the Championship title at Phoenix Raceway, Logano appeared in an episode of NASDAQ's The Winning Formula and reflected on his motivation to win. He said:
"I get more excited to celebrate with my team than I did in the beginning because I wanted to be a champion but now I want to celebrate with my team."
Logano also highlighted his "special moment" after Penske took home the coveted trophy for a third consecutive year and its impact on the lives of the team members and their families. He said:
"When you think about how big our team is. It's not just the 20 people that travel with us per car but it's also the 400 people that work at Team Penske. It's also the people that work at Ford, which is in the thousands, the people working at Shell, which is in the thousands, our engine shop as well."
"It's so big for everyone and it affects everybody's gifts under the Christmas tree at the end of the year, right? It affects the bonus," Logano added.
The Middletown, Connecticut native also humorously spoke about how he gave cash bonuses to the #22 Ford crew members in a theatrical manner.
"I always wanted to do this" - Joey Logano on his flamboyant manner of giving out bonuses after third Championship title
In a recent conversation with former NASCAR driver Kenny Wallace, Joey Logano spoke about the theatrical manner in which he distributed the cash bonuses to his team after lifting the 2024 Cup Series championship trophy.
The Team Penske driver claimed how he chalked up the "things to hit" chart at the beginning of the season and planned to compensate based on that. The 34-year-old and his #22 Ford team hit the bull's eye and the driver outlined how he gave out the bonuses.
"So we won and I'm like, 'Oh boy, I don't know where to get this kind of money.' I brought it into the room and got everybody in the conference room." Logano said. "And I got a duffle bag full of 200K and I just dumped it out. And said, 'I always wanted to do this'. And just started throwing money around."
"It was badass. It was so great. Those are the moments that like, that's so cool to celebrate with everybody. Everyone had that together. It's awesome," he added.
Joey Logano advanced to the 2024 post-season playoffs with a single win at Nashville Superspeedway. However, his two wins in the playoff rounds were enough to claim his third Cup Series championship title.
