Former NASCAR driver Elliott Sadler has shared his reaction to the 1999 World Wrestling Entertainment Champion Mankind. Sharing a post on X, Sadler recalled how Mankind defeated The Rock to win the championship in 1999.
Sadler quote-tweeted a video from '90s WWE where The Rock was fighting Mankind for the 1999 title. The six-minute clip showed how Stone Cold Steve Austin arrived at the scene, smacked The Rock on the head with a chair, and assisted Mankind.
Austin left Mankind on top of The Rock, and the referee called on three taps. The resultant action helped Mankind win the title over The Rock, and it left Vince McMohan, co-founder of modern WWE, in disbelief. Reacting to the 25-year-old footage from WWE, Sadler wrote:
"What a pop … I feel sorry for the people that were not wrestling fans in the 90’s .. it was the best !!!"
Even though Mankind won the title, his reign lasted less than 24 hours after Triple H defeated him on 'Raw is War.' This marked Mankind's last WWE Championship reign.
Notably, 1999 was an instrumental year for wrestling as the sport made record profits, thanks to the Attitude Era. The likes of The Rock, Triple H, Vince McMohan, The Undertaker, Mankind, and Stone Cold Steve Austin uplifted the sport and garnered a huge following all over the world.
Elliott Sadler once recalled his first career win in NASCAR and termed it "dream come true"
In March this year, Elliott Sadler shared a post on X, celebrating his first ever NASCAR Winston Cup Series win. The former NASCAR driver won the 2001 Food City 500 at Bristol Motor Speedway in Bristol, Tennessee.
Quote-tweeting Racing For Hours X post, Sadler wrote:
"Definitely a special day for me and my family !!! Dreams can come true."
The victory in Bristol was one of three Cup Series victories the former Cup Series driver claimed. Besides Cup Series, he also competed in the two other national series of stock car racing—Xfinity and Truck Series.
Elliott Sadler was born on April 30, 1975, in Emporia, Virginia. He is the brother of former NASCAR driver Hermie Sadler.
