Kyle Larson faced troubles midway through Stage 2 when he got delayed during a pit stop at the South Point 400 race at Las Vegas Motor Speedway. The Hendrick Motorsports driver claimed he makes more mistakes than the #5 Chevy team and is confident that it won't happen again.

Among his two playoff wins, the HMS driver has faced hiccups in the other races. His most recent appearance for the first Round of 8 race has taken the spotlight. On lap 125, the #5 Chevy driver got delayed in the tire change as the right rear tire wasn't tightly bolted. Hence, the jackman had to redo it. This wasn't the end of it, Larson lost position after he had to pit again on Lap 127 to tighten the left rear tire and was down a lap.

Reflecting on his setback, the 2021 Cup Series champion acknowledged the "mistake" and said (via Bob Pockrass):

"I make a lot more mistakes than the rest of our team does. Yeah, that allows me to be calm and all that. So, yeah, it was a bit of a mess, but we'll assess it and learn from it. And it'll never happen again. I know that."

Larson added:

"It became a mess on that pit stop, but, you know, we just kept our heads in the game from then from there forward and, you know, almost got a top ten."

The 2021 Cup Seris champion Larson has continued with his season's dominant run even in the 2024 playoffs. With a tally of six wins, the 32-year-old is one of the top contenders to win the Cup Series championship titles.

Larson managed a P11 finish at Las Vegas but has dropped from the first spot in the playoff picture to the third. With two races left to redeem himself before the championship race at Phoenix, the Elk Grove native seemed optimistic.

In the post-race conversation, the #5 HMS driver hoped for a cleaner day than his recent appearance in Nevada. He said:

"Yeah, I mean, obviously I love Homestead and we run well there. I would hope for a clean day. Today was not that, but yeah, we're going to be fast there. So, yeah, just try to get some stage points and get a good finish."

As things stand, Team Penske's Joey Logano, the winner of the Las Vegas race, has booked his berth for the next round. Meanwhile Larson is placed at P3 and a buffer of 35 points above the playoff cutline.
