Dale Earnhardt Jr. recently revealed that he had an exhilarating experience returning to his grassroots racing in a Late Model event at Langley Speedway that brought back memories of his early racing days.

Dale Jr. described that after the race he spent the entire night drinking beers and stayed up until the early hours of the morning as the race ended and the participants packed up their trailers.

Last weekend, Dale Earnhardt Jr. made his debut at the Hampton Heat 200 Late Model race at Langley. Despite not racing regularly anymore, he ended up finishing fifth in the #3 car on the short track.

In a recent episode of “The Dale Jr. Download,” recalling his wild night racing experience at Langley in detail, here's what the two-time Daytona 500 winner said:

“So we sat there and we drank some beers till 5 o'clock in the morning, local shows, local series. They're racing, and they finish their races. Here come the trucks and trailers back in. I loved it because it was super late. It was like 5 o'clock in the morning, and everybody's loading their trailers up, saying bye. I walked out there, jumped in the fifth wheel, slept for about two and a half hours, got up, pulled it out at 8:30 or 9 o'clock, and drove all the way home.”

Dale Earnhardt Jr. was satisfied and fulfilled with how the experience unfolded at Langley. On his return to his roots in local racing, Dale Jr. said:

“Sometimes, when you want to do something and you want to go back and relive something, it's never as good or never like you thought, or it's like you build it up in your head. This matched my vision of going back and racing. It was perfect! I wouldn't change a thing.”

Dale Earnhardt Jr. reveals the reason to race at Langley Speedway

The two-time NASCAR Xfinity Series champion has some memories with the Langley track as his mother used to live in Hampton, Virginia. He revealed that he has watched numerous races on TV and often visited this track during his childhood.

Speaking to FloRacing, Dale Earnhardt Jr. revealed why he wanted to race at Langley’s short track. Dale Jr. said:

"The track is, you know, my mom lived here a long time, 25 years, so I came here a lot as a kid, or a couple times at least. I watched a lot of races here on TV and on streaming over the last several years; this was one of the first tracks that got a streaming option, and so I always wanted to race here."
