NASCAR driver Dale Earnhardt Jr. this week expressed his excitement for the return of the iconic Pennsboro Speedway, a cherished venue for dirt track racing fans. The West Virginia dirt track recently completed renovations and was set for a grand reopening to host the XR Super Series, as announced by officials earlier this year.
The Speedway's reopening, initially set for May 2024, was delayed due to flooding and extreme weather conditions. After announcing the XR Super Series event in late September, the iconic dirt track finally hosted its much-anticipated race, marking a significant return to action for the venue.
Earnhardt celebrated the Speedway’s reopening by sharing a video posted by the official account of the Pennsboro Speedway on X (formerly Twitter). He wrote,
"They really brought it back. I can’t express how cool this is to see a racetrack revived. It’s beautiful. Lots of hard work and local support. 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼"
Bobby Pierce, piloting the #32 entry, secured a win in the feature event. The podium was completed by the #99 of Devin Moran, and the #9 driven by Nick Hoffman.
Meanwhile, Dale Earnhardt Jr.'s Xfinity Series drivers remain in contention for a spot in the Championship 4. Justin Allgaier sits 35 points above the cut-off line. However, his JR Motorsports teammates Sammy Smith and Sam Meyer are in a winner-take-all situation, ahead of the final Round of 8 race at Martinsville Speedway.
Dale Jr. followed in the footsteps of his father, NASCAR legend Dale Earnhardt Sr., debuting in the Busch Series, now Xfinity, in 1996. He won consecutive championships in that series, in 1998 and 1999, and accumulated 50 race wins across NASCAR’s top two divisions. Despite his successes, Dale Jr. never captured the coveted Cup Series championship, while his father won a record seven titles in NASCAR’s premier division.
Dale Earnhardt Jr.'s driver open ups on "hardest part" amid his multiyear extended stay at JR Motorsports
JR Motorsports driver Justin Allgaier earlier this week signed a multi-year contract extension with Dale Earnhardt Jr.'s team. Allgaier pilots the #7 Chevy, and has been with the team for nearly eight years.
The 38-year-old Allgaier holds the record for the most top-ten finishes in the Xfinity Series. A 25-time race winner, the #7 driver has also secured 10 pole positions. Following the end of the Amex Credit Card 300 at Homestead-Miami, Dale Jr.'s ace driver commented on his contract extension, which came amid his 2024 playoff run.
"So far so good. It's hard, we've known kind of a couple of weeks now that the contract extension is done, but it's good to have that, it's good to talk about it. You know we just have to get to our job, I think that's the hardest part, we get caught up sometimes in the week to week, and I'm like, 'How do we do this well, how do we do this right?' You know, all those things"(2:31).
Allgaier maintained a top-ten position throughout the Amex Credit Card 300 playoff race, eventually securing a P8 finish.
