NASCAR driver Brad Keselowski's father, former NASCAR driver Bob Keselowski, passed away on December 22, 2021, after a protracted battle with cancer. On the third anniversary of the senior Keselowski this week, veteran NASCAR reporter Matt Yocum remembered the former driver with words of high praise.
Bob Keselowski made his NASCAR debut in the 1994 UAW-GM Teamwork 500 Cup Series race at Pocono Raceway. He was among the first drivers to compete in the Camping World Truck Series, formerly the Super Truck Series. In a career spanning 5 years, he made one trip to victory lane and secured 15 top-ten finishes in 86 race starts.
Recently, Matt Yocum, a former TNN reporter who worked during Bob Keselowski's time, shared a post on X, remembering the former driver on his death anniversary. Yocum wrote:
"Racer. Super hard worker. Survivor. Quality person. It's in their DNA....Grandpa John, brothers Ron and Bob."
Following in his father's footsteps, Brad Keselowski started his professional racing career in the 2004 Truck Series campaign before moving up the NASCAR ladder.
Keselowski's NASCAR career highlights include 39 Cup Series victories, including success at the prestigious Brickyard 400, and the 2012 Cup Series championship with Team Penske. His versatility is evident in his success across divisions, as he also claimed the 2010 Xfinity Series championship.
"It’s something I will always admire" - When Brad Keselowski commented on his late father's persona after his death
Brad Keselowski shared a heartfelt note reflecting on the profound inspiration his father, Bob Keselowski, had been in his life. In a note penned in the aftermath of his father's death, Brad undertook efforts to preserve the Bonneville Salt Flats, a site renowned for land speed records and a place deeply connected to his father's passion for motorsport.
Brad Keselowski said,
"My dad will always be my hero[...] I am forever grateful for what I learned from this man, and I will remember him every day.
He added,
"My dad was the definition of a true racer, and his need for speed was something that could not be tamed. It’s something I will always admire. Chasing land-speed records at the Bonneville Salt Flats in Utah was something he enjoyed with his brother Ron and my brother Brian often. He treasured his time spent there and once exceeded speeds of 270+ mph during a 2018 visit there…a goal he set and reached. So in honor of my dad’s legacy, please consider visiting savethesalt.org and making a contribution to the nonprofit organization that is dedicated to protecting the Bonneville Salt Flats and its motorsports history."
In recent matters, Keselowski's 2024 season brought him into the playoffs. However, he could not make it past the Round of 16. In 36 race starts, The #6 driver for RFK Racing secured 14 top-five and 9 top-ten finishes.
Meanwhile, the Cup Series will return for the Clash at Bowman Gray on February 2nd, 2035.
