Kevin Harvick believes Kyle Larson giving another shot at the Double Duty is "great for racing." The retired NASCAR driver gave his take after the Hendrick Motorsports driver expressed his desire to kiss the bricks on the Indianapolis Motor Speedway by triumphing in the open-wheel car.

The crown jewel race's return to the 2.5-mile IMS Oval witnessed the 2021 Cup Series champion clinch his maiden Brickyard 400 victory. As a tradition, the winner kisses the bricks on the asphalt next to the start/finish line. Shortly after the HMS driver bagged his third crown jewel race win, and followed the practice, he teased about his second Indy 500 appearance next year.

Larson attempted the Indy-Charlotte Double but despite starting his Indy 500 run from fifth place on the grid, his #17 Arrow McLaren rounded up for an 18th-place finish. Moreover, due to inclement weather conditions, his Indianapolis race started and finished late and the Californian couldn't make it to the Charlotte Motor Speedway in time.

The 31-year-old was set to replace Justin Allgaier who started the Coca-Cola 600 for the former but that didn't happen as the race stood canceled. Thus, on a single day, the HMS driver suffered two setbacks.

But after his Cup Series run at IMS, Larson shared he'd "love" to return for the Indy 500 and clinch the unattained feat (via Harvick Happy Hour on X).

"How about we come back next May and try to kiss these bricks on the IndyCar?" the HMS driver said. "I'd love to, we'll work on it so I hope we can announce something soon and see you guys next May," he added when asked if his return is guaranteed.

Kevin Harvick was pleased by Kyle Larson's desire and gave his verdict on the same.

"He [Kyle Larson] races more than anybody on Earth and he's successful in everything that he does and I like watching him race and do things that other people don't do. I think it's great for our sport, it's not only great for our sport, it's great for racing and I want to see him back at the Indy 500," the 2014 Cup Series champion said (0.45).

If everything goes as planned then Larson would be seen for another Double Duty attempt. Also, with plenty of Doubleheader experience, his potential future outing might be promising.

"It just kills me"- Kyle Larson after multiple factors contributed to his dismaying Indy 500 outing

Before Kyle Larson, only four racers attempted the exhausting Indy-Charlotte Double. Of them, Tony Stewart is the only one to have completed both races spanning 1100 miles. The HMS and Arrow McLaren driver's pursuit of acing both events was backed by a team that worked relentlessly behind the scenes for nearly a year.

After placing his #17 open-wheel car in fifth place, the odds of churning a satisfactory outcome were high, but troubles ensued as the 200-lap dash kicked off. A spin-off during an early restart sent Larson to the rear in 14th place and over-speeding in the pitlane on Lap 131 pushed him further away from the frontrunners. After serving the pit-road speeding penalty, he was a lap down and resumed his run from the 22nd place.

Furthermore, a subpar pitstop strategy proved costly when the 31-year-old had to pit with just five laps to go and wound up his debut Indy 500 run in 18th place. Disappointed by his race, Kyle Larson penned down a long note on X (formerly Twitter).

"So much time, money, and effort went into this experience and it just kills me to have it all end the way it did. I feel like I let so many people down. We knew all along weather could throw a wrench into things but seeing it come to reality is a horrible feeling," a part of his message read.

Kyle Larson is currently focused on claiming his second regular season title and putting a dominant show in the playoffs.
