Parker Kligerman came excruciatingly close to his maiden NASCAR Xfinity Series victory at the Charlotte Roval. Sam Mayer overtook the #48 driver in the final lap with the latter eventually settling for a P6 finish. However, Kenny Wallace was visibly upset with NASCAR's timing to throw the black and white flag.
Kligerman has participated in 117 Xfinity races in his career, but never crossed the checkered flag ahead of everyone else. It seemed like today was finally the day his winless streak was about to end.
However, fate had other plans. NASCAR threw a caution just inches before the 34-year-old was about to cross the line. Had the officials waited for him to cross the line, the race would have been over and Kligerman would have gone to victory lane.
NASCAR legend Wallace blamed the officials for "screwing" Kligerman. He posted on his X account:
Parker Kligerman got screwed blued and tattooed. I feel so bad for him. I think all race car drivers have been in that position".
Wallace added,
"Here's the controversy. He's human. It's human. NASCAR decides when to push that button. It's a human up there. So they push the button 2-feet before Parker Kligerman gets there and it's just a b*tch."
Parker Kligerman reacts after heartbreaking finish at Charlotte Roval
Big Machine Racing driver Parker Kligerman took to social media after losing out on his maiden Xfinity win at the Charlotte Roval. The #48 Toyota driver also failed to qualify for the next playoff stages in the process. Kligerman shared his feelings and wrote:
"Drove my heart out in those last laps. Just wasn’t enough. Thank you to my team for the incredible effort under immense pressure. Thank you to all of you for the kind words, it means the world. I’m absolutely gutted but I still love this game."
Parker, who is also an NBC pit reporter recently announced that this was his last full-time Xfinity season. The 34-year-old was understandably distraught after failing to win at Roval. He has previously come close to winning a race three times but has been unsuccessful in tasting the victory champagne.
Road course expert Shane van Gisbergen also failed to qualify for the Round of 8 playoffs. The Kiwi, who clean sweeped both Xfinity and Cup Series pole positions earlier today, failed to make it count when it mattered the most. Riley Herbst and Sheldon Creed were the other two drivers who failed to make it to the next stage.
