Running in the practice session for the Xfinity race at Sonoma, Boris Said crashed hard in his #17 HendrickCars.com racecar. Said, who was announced as one of the drivers for Hendrick Motorsports' 10 entries in the Xfinity Series in 2024, was left embarrassed after his practice wreck.
Speaking to FOX Sports after his crash that left his racecar in bad shape, Said emphasized how embarrassed he felt about the wreck.
The 61-year-old driver further mentioned how he hopes he can capitalize on his wreck, so an angry Rick Hendrick won't be as mad.
"It's just embarrassing, to be honest with you. Everybody at HendrickCars.com gave me such a great car I was just trying to get up to speed, and I just got a little loose and almost saved it and just ran out of talent. I've never crashed a car in practice at Sonoma in all my 38 years of racing, and I feel bad for my 10,000 Hendrick teammates that are watching. Hopefully, we have a backup car, and hope I can get out there and maybe safe face and get some people to go to HendrickCars.com, maybe buy a car—that'll help me out because I'm sure Rick's going to be pretty mad I smashed up his really fast race car but it's just embarrassing," Said claimed.
Speaking about the racecar and his own state, Said added that the car was "really strong" and he doesn't feel bad at all physically.
But mentally, he felt embarrassed having crashed a car in that fashion after 38 years of racing. He claimed that he had never felt this bad.
Having said that, Boris Said hoped they could get it together for qualifying on Saturday and get a good finish for everybody at HendrickCars.com.
Boris Said has loads of experience and success in different forms of racing
Despite his practice crash at Sonoma, which would suggest otherwise, Boris Said has a lot of experience behind the wheel.
Said won the 24 Hours of Daytona twice, in 1997 and then in 1998, the 12 Hours of Sebring in the same year, and the sports car championship in 2004. Along with that, he became the first American to win the 24 hours of Nürburgring in 2005.
As for his experience in NASCAR, Said has started 55 races in the Cup Series, winning 2 pole positions and finishing inside the top 10 eight times. In the Xfinity Series, Said has run 29 races, won 2 poles, and scored 9 finishes inside the top 10. While in the Truck Series, Said has run in 65 races, scored 3 poles, finished inside the top 10 nine times, and won a race, which came back in 1998.
Interestingly, his only win in NASCAR came at Sonoma, a track where he'll be racing once again on Saturday in the Xfinity Series.
