Considered by many a trailblazer for female racers in NASCAR, Danica Patrick has commented on the issue of trans athletes competing in women's sports. The Wisconsin native shared her thoughts with the former Wall Street investor Codie Sanchez.
One of the most successful female racers, Patrick began her racing journey by competing in several karting series. After competing in several open-wheel racing and European road series, she returned to the US to compete in IndyCar.
In 2010, Patrick ventured into the world of stock car racing with the NASCAR national series. She gained popularity in the 2013 season after clinching pole position in the Daytona 500 race. She also became the first woman in NASCAR history to lead laps at Daytona.
After competing for over a decade as a full-time racer, Patrick retired from all motorsports in 2018.
During a recent interaction with Codie Sanchez, Patrick shared her views on the topic of trans athletes competing in women's sports.
"I was a girl in a guy's sport. There are some true hormonal physiological reasons why men should not compete in women's sports. When it comes to strength, when it comes to power, size, those things are really different. Men have at least 10 times the testosterone that women do, which is something that helps build lean muscle mass and gives you size and mass and power, it's totally unfair,' she said.
Here's a look at a video clip of the aforementioned interaction between Patrick and Sanchez from Instagram:
Danica Patrick, who competed in close to 200 races over a seven-year period in the NASCAR Cup Series, has been outspoken about her political beliefs in recent months.
"I will not be judged for being a proud American" - Danica Patrick slams critics opposing her political stance
Danica Patrick received a lot of backlash for attending the Turning Point USA conference with her sister in 2023. The former NASCAR racer recently slammed her critics for opposing her political stance.
She cleared the air via a speech during a recent Donald Trump event in Las Vegas.
"My story starts in December of last year. I was going to the event in Phoenix called AMFest... Charlie Kirk does an incredible job with Turning Point. Great human being, great American. The lineup of speakers were just so stellar... So my sister flew out, we had a great time. I posted a bunch of pictures," Patrick said.
"I posted these photos and said I love America. Let's make America great again. People didn't like that. People looked at me like I was some radical, right-wing MAGA. Like MAGA's got this awful connotation to so many people. And you know what, all it did was light a fire. I was like, I will not be judged to live in America, be an American, be a proud American. Say, I love America and want to make America great again. I won't be judged for it," she added.
For reference, the entire speech is available on Danica Patrick's Instagram page as a reel.
